Seriously, is there really any difference between skis?

Like, actually, everyone has their preference on ski companies they will always forever announce are the best, but is there actually much difference between manufacturers as people make out?
Yeah, all skis have differences with construction and features but if I was to buy a top end ski from any company that matched the specs that I needed, would there really be any difference?
I just hear people all the time blabbing on about how the company that make the skis they ride are far superior than all other companies.
Is there a strait up winner for the park ski, the powder ski, the all mountain etc or is it just choose a terrain and choose a design you like, with desired specs and you're sorted.

Um yeah. Take ON3P and 4FRNT for example. Both make amazing skis but the bamboo core and VDS ON3P offers provide such a different feel to the ski, even if the same brands made the same ski. Materials used and how they're made make skis vary.

Different widths, sidecuts, rocker points, shapes, edge thickness, base type/shape, core materials, flex patterns, mounting spots....

what a dumb thread.

I don't think it's a dumb question. Most companies are making pretty damn good skis now days, and I think the differences are getting smaller. But I've tried very similar shaped skis with the almost the same amount of rocker and camber and dimensions, and some just have a better feel and rebound out of the turn. I'm not sure that certain brands of skis are vastly better than others, but maybe feel better to certain individuals. There are still some pretty bland skis, but others just have that crisp feel that some don't.

Yeah, I understand that every ski is different. Im saying that between a ski from two companies that share similar enough spec's, is there any significant difference?

Again, yes. Core materials, flex, and lots of others.

I think the question is about build quality and durability with different companies. Not dimensions or materials.

I think the problem with the question here is that there really aren't many pairs of skis that are that similar, as even minor differences like the wood used for the core or very very slight differences in sidecut can make skis feel really different. Not to mention all the new ideas and technologies that are different to each manufacturer that have a huge impact on how a ski feels
