I broke my back (L2) skiing last year from dropping a cliff and getting sent foreward into a rock and if I had my back protector on I would've just had the wind knocked out for a minute. The thing that sucks too was that just before I left for my trip I forgot my back protector in a friends car. Definitely recommend wearing one.
