Now I just want to clear this up, I am not a noob at filming. I have been coin it for year and like to consider myself fairly good. That being said, my friend and I are filming this year and we're both skiing as well. We're deciding between a DSLR with a rig (follow focus, rails, matte box, Rode Mic) or a GoPro (Gimbal, Rode Mic)
Pros:
DSLR:
Better Quality audio and film
Great in color correction
GoPro:
Faster laps
1080p 60 digital zoom to 720p 24
Gimbal for smooth shots
Cons:
DSLR:
Slow us down because we will have to setup shots a lot more
No follow cam because we have no gimbal and my friend doesn't know how to use a steadicam
GoPro:
Lower Quality
I'm predicting that we are only going to be able to go up a few times sadly and we need to maximize our time on the mountain so we're leaning more towards the GoPro and gimbal on this one cause we will be able to do fast laps and get more runs in.
DSLR rig minus the monopod
GoPro rig is the same as SLVSH's basically minus the second gopro
