michael.hsu.5059I am always confused when people say "pop", mostly because of the wording and even some guides explicitly saying that pop is more of a "mini-jump" where you kinda pump your upper body up by bending slightly at the waist.
Especially for boxes I find I need to full on BASKETBALL JUMP to get enough air time to turn my body sideways and onto the box.
So which is it? Full on reach-for-the-sky jump or a "jolt"?
schjfand for the boxes you probably need more speed. Instead of a huge jump on you need to just do a swift 90 degree turn on.
michael.hsu.5059Would the speed give me more air time? The problem is I always land on the box at the beginning of the slide at only about 60 degrees not full 90, because I didn't get enough air time to spin.
There is also mixed information on exactly what you turn with - your shoulders? or your hips? Both? Or just one? Which gives you more power?
I've seen tons of people that face their chest down the box instead of perpendicular to it like the skis (or at least they jump onto the box facing down, then only turning their hips to get the skis perpendicular). I've also seen people that fully turn their entire body shoulders and hips all perpendicular to the box, but only with the head pointed down the box the whole time. This seems to be more correct?
The science/physics involved I've heard with spinning is that 1) Wherever your shoulders is pointed, your hips will follow naturally, so turn with your shoulders more than your hips, and 2) your hips carry more power behind it so turn with your hips and correct your shoulders as needed.
schjfYes speed will help a lot, and you may need to wind up a little bit more and prepare. also, turn mainly from your hips. Dont overthink it too much because it will get confusing, but approach with knees bent and shoulder width apart, leaning forward, then pop and turn 90
RsimpsonAlso most urban rails aren't are hard as you think you just have to go for it. Join the trick tip forum there's a shit ton of useful stuff in there
cjt121099I've been on ns for almost a year and I have never heard of the trick tip forum. How do I join / read.
