go watch like the line tc japan edit in season 6 or 7...in there they hit quite a bit of pretty good looking park - i have a question though, if park is your thing, go to breck or something (if this is about a trip). japan has japow and from one park skier to another please bypass a park when you have japow.
Hirafu park late last season was awesome. Well maintained through March and heaps of fun lines. Hannozono park looked good from the chair but every time I was out that way it sure as shit wasn't to ski park. Happo 1 has a cool looking bank setup. Lots of hips and hits.

If anyone ever works anywhere in japan and the people there are like "We should hire a really dumb American to work with us in our park" let me know. I'm looking for a job over there. Not now, but would be cool to do a season or two over there.
Actually would be trying to get into the park to work, but really just using that as an excuse to check out some of this japanese powder. Worst case I'll just pony up the $$$ eventually and take a damn ski vacation. Just nearly impossible to get time off in the middle of the season, and in addition to not working, and probably not being able to get the time off, the trip seems like it would be $$. But it's Japan, so it's probably worth it.
Can somebody just mail me some Japanese powder.(No not drugs. Please don't mail me drugs)
Don't go to Japan if you want to ski park, the powder is just fucking top notch and you would be wasting your time in the park. Most parks over there a pretty shit because of the high snow fall making it super hard to maintain them. Just pack the fattest pair of skis you have and just get pitted!

Going to the main Island to ski for 10 days, it's running us less than 3k if that helps, we are doing the sleeper van route.
You guys know it doesnt snow EVERYDAY in Japan right? Sometimes it gets real warm, the snow won't be that bad, and taking a few park laps might actually be fun. You go to Japan to ski pow, but wondering how the park is should you not hit the snow right is legit.
It doesn't snow for the whole season. Come spring, there's a big snowpack built up and the days start to get sunny. Then, it's time to hit the parks. And the parks are pretty good and well maintained. In a few spots in Hokkaido, they have parks still going till May as the snow sticks around for so long.

Go to Niseko on a working holiday visa and work at a bar all winter. Easy.

I have no skills outside of the park. id probably get fired for raking the top of the bar clean.
not necessarily true but as much as id love to do a season in japan, its northern hemisphere. Turning down any park or grooming jobs to do bar stuff would crush me.
even for japan.
its all I know anymore. maybe I could do a season teaching lessons though. its been a while and not my ideal gig but japan.

It would crush you to shred pow everyday when it snows 20cm a day for weeks on end? Who gives a shit where you work if you're surfing pow everyday man.

I didnt choose thebpark lyfe the park lyfe chose me

This is what I don't understand...Why not work at a bar and crush park laps all day? Why not take a job that lets you ski more rather than take a job where you're kinda skiing but never really...skiing.
I never understood why people do seasons and spend the whole winter working on their skis, instead of really skiing. I'd rather work in a city and do weekend trips rather than go to a mountain, and spend the whole time holding gapers hands or digging parks.
That being said, get a working holiday visa and hit up Aus or NZ if you'd rather ski park than pow. Don't bother going to Japan if it's strictly for park.
Its not as stupid as everyone seems to think. It depends where you go in Japan too. Somewhere like Niseko generally gets fresh snow most days so its hard to justify skiing park when you could be skiing pow. Plus the park crew usually struggle with maintenance when it snows that often. There is still a scene there though and its not that uncommon to see some of the locals or seasonals to be throwing down doubles.
However somewhere like Hakuba usually has a big storm roll in for a few days and then a couple of days of sunshine before the next storm, so a bit of park skiing is on the cards. A few of the resorts are Hakuba like Haluba 47, Tsugaike and Happo One have pretty good parks. Happo Banks (shown in a picture above) is actually one of the coolest and most innovative parks I've skied. It didn't look like much but damn it was fun

oh no! I never ski I just work. idk, maybe I actually enjoy building parks. Also I still get to ride enough that im happy. Honestly its totally fine and I have nothing against it, but for me, fuck working at a bar or some other job. I would and have done my job for free.
To each their own but just because something isnt your thing doesnt mean you have to be a dick about it. I like to build rails, I like to design park and contest layouts, I like diggin on something then shredding the final product. idk its my jam. lol at the thought that working in the city and skiing on weekends is better. you know days off? we still have those. At vail resorts they run 4 days a week. You have 3 days off to shred in addition to your riding while work plus youre probably already at or near the mtn not in a city.
Good advice about nz/aus although ive worked park in nz already.
also just because I dont want to give up my job doesnt mean I dont love to slay powder. its fine you dont get it but damn.

You know that all makes sense, my feelings are more directed at the fellas that instruct every day all winter and only actually get to shred once or twice a season.
Also I was talking about something I was trying to understand, don't see how I was being a dick about it.
I'm up in Niseko this season and for park wise it's only opened for maybe about a month and a half at March, it's all about the Japow out here brother! Couple of my friends went hiking and said the snow is hip deep with lots of facials (resort isn't opened yet opens tomorrow and it snowed like 40cm just yesterday)

Man the park is pretty much open from when they have the snow. By late Jan Hanozono will mostly have the halfpipe built and the big booters cranking. None of this month and a half in March rubbish

Your post was sort of "fuck everyone who works at ski areas thats dumb".
Also some people really enjoy teaching and passing the stoke onto the next wave of shredders.
if you hate anything like that its fine, but just as you would rather work the bar/restaurant life and be free in the day, there are plenty of people who would rather work at the mtns themselves.

Oh snap, should of mentioned I'm situated grand hirafu and was only talking about the main section here, that's super dope to hear that about Hanozono park. I better go grab a pair of park skis soon and rock up there! Super stoked
I should probably research some shizz before opening my mouth next time. Sorry.

Park in Hirafu also opens in Dec/jan, you're thinking of the spring park on the upper mountain.

I hardly ever teach gapers, work in the sickest resorts in the world and get paid well for a rewarding job, you don't have a clue what you're talking about man.
