This season (for the east coast) is going to be a repeat of 2011/2012. We've had too many good seasons in a row. It's time we take our L and brace for the worst. It's going to be in the 50s for the next two weeks. This time last year, my mountain was cranking out snow. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this pattern before. Usually it's just a continuous downward spiral. You heard it from me; and if I'm wrong, feel free to come back and mock me. I know I'll be preparing for snowflex trips, and making some expansions on my summer setup.

My resort is actually ahead of schedule by opening in December lol. I would be pumped its not January back to back years.

This is 100% correct for the Midwest also
I looked at accuweather and wrote down their predictions for this month about a month ago and they have been pretty spot on...
That saying I'm thinking the December predictions are going to be correct.

My local hill is really small. They are using the snow sprayers not cannons. they opened december 4th last year so I'd be hyped on anything close the that

I have asked people and they have said it is not very accurate, but it has been pretty spot on...

I'm sick of the weather predictions threads. this time last year we were saying the same thing (Buffalo NY), and then in late November we got 9 feet of snow in less than a week.........

prediction threads are probably the least hype thing I've ever seen on this website, be patient, winter will come, you will go skiing, get excited don't bum because it hasn't dumped 3 feet yet.

Winter comes when winter comes. It may be warmer now, but at least for some parts of the east/Midwest that will mean a more consistent winter.

It was cool that my mountain opened on thanksgiving. It was not cool that they had to close on Christmas because the temps went from the 20s to the 50s

It's coming. Just gives me more time to prep the rails and other things. Plus the longer I wait the more hyped I get

Id say up here in mass the early part of winter will be mild but late winter looks like your average eat coast winter snowy and cold, hope for the best!

Yup accept the worst and hope for the best.

Just gonna golf a hell of a lot next month or so now its too cold for all the old slow assholes to clog up the course and try and plan a cheap trip or two outside New ENgland early season and enjoy the skiing I do get in in New England. If shits really awful I'll just be more social and try and get to the hill with a group of people who may or may not ski well but will be down to get drunk and high and mess around on the snowmaking serviced groomers.


Don't worry no matter how warm it is and how much rain drops and how little natural snowfall we get they can always blow snow in NEw England mountains 9/10 nights a week from December-Feb.

Got a Stowe Pass because its associated with Liftopia and the MOuntain Collective and it gives me 50% Banff/Whistler/JH/Aspen/ALtabird/Squaw/Taos/Mammoth. Stowe has pretty good snowmaking and is a good place to go when the conditions everywhere suck. And I can take a trip to legit mountains and not have to pay 120 a day for lift tickets.


Gonna be a good winter regardless!

Which is lovely as long as we get some legit dumps mid-late in the year and get to ski on a decent base into April/May there will be plenty of good days to be had.

East coast mountains are buttmunchers when it comes to opening up their terrain after early season snowfalls even mid-late December dumps can go to waste because the hill is being all vaginal and there is a bush or two sticking out of the snow.

Northern New England will have marginal temps for maybe 24 hours starting this Saturday late night/morning.

Killy does white ribbon of death and open wirh ghetto conditions. They will close again few days later with warm temps and large rain storm on horizon for the 20th/21st.

24th brings first real snowmaking period to New England. It's the end of the model run, shows few cold days. But end of mode run so take it with what it is...

thats besides the point tho. Yeah i agree they suck but it helps some people come well ( me included) so i dont hang mu self if my hill dose not open on black (white) Friday like they have in 3 in a row years now.

I see a strong cold shot coming in right before thanksgiving but apparently there is also supposed to be some rain during the days on it.

It is an inaccurate non trusted weather source.

Follow actual model runs and ensembles. This is for future projections.

Intellicast is best for current radar hands down.

Follow local and trusted blogs. Some of your best info can come from those areas.

OP, dont forget that last year was one of the best seasons for the east in a while and the temperatures dropped pretty early in the season. It is normal for there to no snow on the ground at this time of year on the east coast. Dont quote me on this but I am pretty sure the farmers almanac said that this winter was gonna have 1/3 more of the amount of snow we got last year and they are right like 85% of the time, I think.

El Nino is going to give us a slow start here in the east, that's pretty much a fact at this point.

However, there are other things in play that could have our season really pick up by early January so i wouldn't get too heart broken just yet.

I live in western new york and had my unofficial first day today (did some hiking at my home hill). To date, this is the earliest in the fall that i have ever gone skiing top to bottom. Basically, fuck that accuweather shit, this season is gonna be fun as hell even if resorts open a week or two later than normal.

No one knows. It could be spot on one year, and the next year it could be off by a longshot. If they are accurate, my mountain isn't opening till late December.

There would have to be no humidity for them to make snow next week. And they would lose alot of it during the daytime anyway. Even still, it is expected to warm up once again afterward.
