eheathUnder jacket works, but is kinda muffled, a nice wind screen (dead cat style) on top of your lav outside the jacket would be ideal.
ben_collinssweet sounds good
do u mean like a fur windscreen or just a normal black one
Free306skierSeems like you figured out your question, but im just wondering what you're looking to use it for? Course previews? I think product/ ski reviews could be interesting, when i was in to longboarding i used to watch these board, trucks, and wheel reviews where a guy would go down a hill and talk about what he thought about the wheel in the moment.
JibbaTheHuttanybody tried recording with an iphone or something similar in the skiers pocket? figured i might try it as a cheap alternative, i know its not going to give quite the same quality but might pick up sounds better than a rode mic at 10-15ft...
-AM-If you're trying to capture the skier speaking, I'd suggest picking up one of the cheaper rode LAV mics. Theyre only like $60 or $70 and plug right into an iphone.
JibbaTheHuttWas thinking more clearer/louder audio of rails, take offs and landings etc.

mike_eanyone try taping the lav to the skiers leg or anything like that?
Huck-e-Cheesei tried mounting a lav down my pants and onto my boot once, the kid filming had a styrofoam windscreen on it, and he swore by it to get the stomping noise on landings and rail noise
