Hey guys, I am looking at colleges and a couple of colleges I am looking at are in the MidWest. How long is the ski season for hills in Minnesota and are there ski areas near Madison, Wisconsin as well? Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help.
Tyrol Basin, Cascade, and Devil's Head are all close to Madison. The Ski and Snowboard club here at UW-Madison does weekly trips to all of these. The Freestyle Club specifically goes to Tyrol. They've got a rope tow and lift servicing a decent park. Tyrol usually has a hike park on halloween, and has a post season thing around 4/20. We also go upto Granite Peak (~2 hrs) on some weekends, which is by far the best park in this part of wisconsin (non-Twin Cities area). I'll let someone else tell you about the Safety School situation (U of M), but which ever you choose, the midwest is super welcoming!
I haven't spent much time in the Madison area so I can't answer that question. As for length of seasons it really depends. In general most hills will open up in mid to late November and are fully open by mid December and close in mid March. I know Wild Mountain is usually the first to open which is the 31st of October. Spirit, Lutsen and those resorts that are along the lake in Wisconsin are usually the last to close due to lake effect. Just know most midwest resorts rely heavily on snowmaking (with a few exceptions) and have the capability to stay fully operational so long as it is cold (Which it usually is). Where are you looking at going?
