IMS - Intra Muscular Stimulation

Have you guys ever heard of this? Had any experience with it? I ruptured a disk in my back skiing about 2 months ago and physio hasn't been doing too much to help it, but I recently learned about IMS and just had my first appointment. I was just wondering if any of you guys have ever had it done and how much it helped! Im really hoping itll help with the stiffness ive been feeling. After my first appointment i can definitely say its a feeling unlike any other ive experienced, and im pretty sore right now but I really hope ill see a difference in the next few days :)

yeh had it on a recent hamstring injury, it isn't that nice but i think it did help relieve some stiffness and soreness, but as with a lot of these things its fairly marginal imo.

it was administered by physio btw

I've had it on my back and my knee after ACL surgery.

It helps with inflammation. Just don't cough when they're in or you bruise really badly and the needles bend.

I work at a clinic with a couple of physios who are IMS certified and have had IMS done on my glutes and lower back several times (I also ruptured a few discs).

It is really effective in giving relief in pain symptoms in chronic injuries. After treatment my muscles were the most relaxed they had been in years. Last year I had a chance to attend a lecture by Dr. Gunn (founder of IMS), and the physiology behind the technique is very interesting, targeting the trigger points and neurological pathways to stop the pain.

That being said, the treatment won't always stop the cause of your injury, if your back problem is caused by poor core muscle control you will still need to address that to prevent an injury from happening. Everyone reacts differently to being needled, so you can expect a variety of responses from the treatment. While I enjoyed the increase in mobility I also found for the days following treatment my muscles weren't as strong skiing or in the gym since they were relaxed.
