Cop charged with murder for shooting a black man

cop pulled the dude over for broken tail light, he seemed to be a bit belligerent, then he tried running away. The cop then shoots him in the back as he runs and he died.

cop is now facing a murder charge, which I'd say is acceptable since if you're a cop you're shooting to kill so he's essentially handing out a death sentence for resisting arrest.

They either dont put cops in the same prisons or keep them out of the general population in a different section of the prison. They wouldnt last 1 night with the other inmates

I live in a urban community to say the least, back in early high school we'd walk in a group of 15 plus kids and hang out by the cops at the cornerstore. we'd all have a bunch of small rocks and whip em at the cops cruiser, then proceed to scatter in 15 different directions through backyards. We would also hang out at the tracks and do the same with the train police. Now that I look back on it, it was a pretty shitty thing to do. I've ran from the police many a time, it does not give them the right to kill you but it pretty much gives them the right to beat your ass. I've had my arm twisted/face showed into the pavement while the cop exclaimed I AM AN IRAQ WAR VETERAN RESPECTS ME I HAVE PTSD YOUR LUCKY I DONT TAKE YOU BEHIND THE TRACKS AND BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT. I was 14 yrs old he said this in front of many people.

litterally word for word it's pretty ingrained in my memory hahah. He ended up apologizing and un handcuffed me, saying it would never happen again. Of course he only did this after I explained to him I DO respect police and that my grandfather was a police officer for 20 + years. He actually didn't believe me at first and kept me in cuffs then his "back up" showed and luckily he was an old timer who new and worked with my grandfather well. I felt pretty boss at the end of it all, my friends were all just watching.

Double post.the whole thing started because a bunch of us were hanging out on a stoop just hanging out. The cop pulled up and said what are you guys doing me being the idiot says nothing just minding our buisness he responds I need to see all of your guys id's, and that there was suspicion of a group of kids breaking into cars on my street, I said I didn't have Id he said if you don't have it your being brought dt. I respond with why are you being such a jerk, he immediately grabbey me slammed me to the ground in some crazy arm lock shit and grinding my face on the ground and started spewing all that PTSD shit. He was shook when he found out I wasn't just "some" hoodlum, I've seen him a bunch of times since he actually knocked on my door one morNing earlier this year my car had been hit and the driver took off. this was like 6 or 7 years later he still remebered me and was ultra polite, actually found the dumb bitch her excuse was I didn't want to miss church I was gunna come back.

Police are trained to eliminate the threat which in a perfect world would mean as soon as the person is no longer a threat (to the officers/public), there should be no more shooting

These videos rarely show what happened before the shooting but I'm having a hard time thinking of any circumstances that would justify his actions


Fleeing felon rules exist in several states but still, that guy will have some serious splaining to do

If they resist arrest or are physically abusive to a police officer (but not threatening their lives) or others then give them a bit of a beating. If the officers life is at risk then he should use lethal force. In this case the officers life was (as far as I can tell) not at risk

Criminal activity is criminal activity doesn't matter if the drug dealer doesn't think its a crime, its a crime.

People who sell LSD or mushrooms should not be beat, unless they act like a shit stain if/when they get arrested for it. They are innocent until proven guilty.

Not saying it's at all justified, because it isn't, but just some back story. The guy has been arrested 10+ times and had a warrant for his arrest out and then tried to run away from the cop.

The cop definitely shouldn't have shot him, but the situation could've been avoided by the victim if he did not resist arrest and try to run away...

People run from the cops all the time, I have and I wasnt shot as though because I'm white.

After watching that video it made me sick, that cop is a monster and a killer. To top it off he dropped the teaser next to the man he killed to try to justify the killing.

What do cops hate more than bad guys? Video because it shows that sometimes they are the bad guys.

disclaimer the following is mostly stuff i'm regurgitating from various talk radio discussions. i have heard speculation that there was an altercation prior to the guy running away. it's obvious the FULL confrontation isn't caught on video (he was pulled over for a taillight yet the video starts with them in a park?). MAYBE the guy stole his taser and dropped it as he began to run (you see something fall onto the ground when he turns to run). MAYBE any altercation prior to the start of the video compounded with the guy taking the officer's taser and made the officer fearful of his life.

my opinion from watching the video is i don't see how anything could have justified the shooting. the cop handled the situation very poorly.

my other opinion is don't run from or fight the police. it will only make the situation worse. the guy could still be alive if he had cooperated.

rewatching the video (0:18 of video in OP) it looks like the cop swats the taser out of his hands before the guy takes off and runs. after his first lapse in judgement to pull the gun and fire maybe he made a second lapse in judgement to pick the evidence up instead of leaving it there.

What was fucked up about this the most was the officer said in the police report that the guy took his tazer from him so he shot him in self defense. When in reality he shot him with the tazer and then as he was running away he shot 8 times hitting him 5 times. He officer then knew he fucked up so he went picked up the tazer and set it next to the guy. Also, said in the police report that he administered cpr till paramedics arrived but he didn't. So he fucked up and fucked up even more by lying in the police report.

This is not murder in the first degree, and based on the short articles I've read I don't think it's murder. Seems like manslaughter, albeit by one of the dumbest cops I've witnessed in action. If you can't handle that one I have to think you're a shitty cop. That dude wasn't going far, pretty sure he could have just waited until he got tired.

You're just being emotional about it, and I don't think you understand the definition of murder/the different degrees/manslaughter/etc.

I guess it's not first degree because he wasn't originally planning on killing him, but I would say it was second degree and not manslaughter. The video shows absolutely no need for him to be shot as well as the officer placing a weapon next to him. Also, medical assistance was terrible. Why the hell would he need handcuffs after being shot multiple times?

Fucking ridiculous. Shot EIGHT times in the back? The other controversial shootings were skewed by the media. This one seems pretty clear cut. What's the cops argument, the guy was running to fetch a gun he had hidden in the woods?

"Get on the fucking ground or you're dead" should never be something a cop says to anybody...

And they wonder why people try to run from them, and generally hold a complete lack of trust towards the police... it's because this sort of shit. Cops need to realize that trust begets trust.

I still don't think this one is really comparable to the OP one. Though most of the stuff is happening off camera, the way the officer is backing up it would be safe to assume the kid was coming at him with the broom and he was warned (not well but still part of escalation of force).

The OP video is no warning, dude running away, unarmed.

I do think its comparable. In the original video, the officer COULD have thought that the suspect may have a weapon hidden (although this is still absolute bullshit considering the guy was running). In this video, the officer knows exactly what hes up against (A FUCKING BROOMSTICK). How the hell could that officer say that he was scared for his life with a guy coming at him with a broomstick. You've got a tazer, use it. We need to stop hiring so many pussies into our police forces. If you can't handle yourself against a guy with a broomstick, while you have a tazer and a baton, you don't deserve to be a cop.

i dont care if he was warned 20 times. it doesnt justify shooting someone. the broomstick is obviously no threat so it comes down to the cop just being a bitch. also it is completely comparable in the fact that if you look at the angle of his gun he is shooting downwards. this indicates that the kid was complying to his request of getting on the ground.
