Knee injury poll for physics project(

If you're feeling motivated, you should also do a poll on the type of binding. I think that would be more insightful.

I'm sorry but I think that the only useful data your getting from this poll is what the most common width of ski is.
To get an accurate percentage/ratio of knee injury to ski width you would have to scale the data as most of the users on here ride skinnier park skis.

Dude if you ski long enough and hard enough you will get a knee injury. That's just part of skiing. And it has little to do with the width of your ski.

Would be interested in seeing the preliminary data you have that suggests knee injuries are associated with ski width.

My guess is that you don't have any. I would suggest you modify your project topic to something else. There are just too many factors:
1. Level of Rider
2.Binding Technology
3.DIN and Forward pressure settings
4. Type of skiing
5. Fitness routine/Other Sports Participated in
6.Family History (It's been suggested that genetics play a factor in how susceptible an individual is to a tear)

Now what would be really cool if you could determine the optimal ski width for powder flotation across a range of heights and weights. It would be really interesting if you could prove whether or not everyone really needs skis that are 116+ underfoot for pow, or if some weights/heights can get the same performance with something between 106 and 112.

ski length was the problem with my injury. I had 171 skis then I bought 185. First day on the skis I landed switch off a rail. The front of my skis crossed which forced my legs out and in the process my knee twisted in. Tore my meniscus

I'd be super interested in this. Blew my ACL rocking a Jester and everyone told me to get the Look Pivot, but I've heard of knee injuries while in those too.

Tough tree run, looking for an out, was about to smack my head, jumped left, wrapped my right knee around the tree. Unhappy triad - MCL/ACl/Meniscus, possibly PCL and LCL, gotta see at my follow up on Monday - and I was in deep powder in skis that were not meant for deep powder.

On a 115mm aka Armada JJ. Wider skis are harder on your knees though.

Dub post. You could probably compare the absolute values for each ski width and those values wouldn't be too skewed I guess.

Most kids on here are on skis skinnier than 99mm. Poll in the OP is pretty meaningless without an accompanying poll on ski width.

I will completely disagree with some of you. On a fatter ski with more weight etc there is more tension on you knee vs a small light park ski

Idk my pops was a ski bum for 5 years, still skis 60-70 days a year, and drops cliffs on the daily. He has never had a knee injury. I'm guessing its cause he bikes a ton in the summer time.

It's actually quite an interesting topic and one I have heard discussed in whistler quite a few times. Certainly going wider and wider will have a effect on the stress on joints and there are a lot of skiers here in whis who think constantly riding wider boards does have a negative effect on the knees.

You ou may remember when bc pow skis came out 10 or so years ago the trend was to go wider and wider but I believe it was Pollard who said there waa a limit. The wider ski floated so well that the force on landings in pow wa too great and it was felt a narrower ski whic could sink more infact gave a better experience.

So ther are prob to ways to look at it from a twisting force effect of a wider ski and also the increased impact from the larger surface area. Would be interesting to see if there were any conclusions you could make.

Yeah there are always the few outliers. Kinda like snoking....the longer you go, the more likely to get cancer etc....but there are always those few that smoke their entire life and don't get anything.

Most likely due to his biking....stronger knees definitely reduces the chance of knee injury.

Some pros get away without one I know torin has never torn anything in his knee and I don't tink bdog Vinney have either.
