I know myself and several others have been experiencing some bugs with the system lately.


Main issues
-photo broken links
sometimes fixes itself if you keep refreshing

-photos won't center in fancy editor
not an issue if you use only html

add anything else you're facing problems with

Are the photos coming from Newschoolers photo system or are they external?

It's showing up for me now on yours. The biggest thing is that after it publishes and you refresh it get's it's shit together, but the biggest part is when you're uploading photos and physically writing the article that they just don't see the need to sort it out in the physical editor during editing/writing phase

any chance icon photos could become necessary to post like the description & category title are?

Would be huge if first time writers who often forget to put a photo (I usually end up adding one for them :) ), just had to automatically. Obviously draws more clicks than they grey NS logo

For what it's worth this would be kind of annoying for my way of working. When I write articles I usually save the drafts then sort stuff like icon photos, images and videos as I finish it off. You can't save a draft without a title/summary, which is fine because I just type draft or whatever but sometimes i dont want to have to mess around with uploading pictures, especially when i'm writing on shitty euro mountain top wifi.

Yeah, I knew you did that and I've seen others do it too. The ideal situation would be a pop-up warning that your icon won't be the right specs for the slider.... but that is a bit harder to pull off.

This seems to be an issue with the thumbnails not loading. Luckily we are working on moving our thumbnail generator and image hosting over to new servers, so that should hopefully fix this issue.

This is an issue. I can use the Center button only if I have the image highlighted (like when I click & drag my mouse, or put my cursor next to the image, hold shift and use the arrow keys to highlight the image). Then the justification buttons work.

This is the editor itself not handling the images very well, I'll see if an updated version of the editor is more graceful.

Can you give me any more info on this? Is there a button or editor feature you are using that causes your text to be deleted? At what point does your text disappear? Any additional info would be helpful.

So sometimes it's as simple as the fancy editor refusing to centre text. And sometimes i'll spend a long time working on an article and then save draft, only to find that half of it is gone when i preview/go back to it. Worst case scenario is having published stuff only to realise parts of it have inexplicably disappeared.

Usually if i realise I can click 'back' a couple of times, select all the text that went missing, copy it and then reopen the draft and save it. Usually it actually saves the second time round but not always, sometimes i have to try this a few times. It happened repeatedly with my most recent article (Snowboard big air in the olympics).

I dont know if this ever happened to anyone else, but I have an unpublished article and it says it has views. I'm kinda confused because I never published it. Not sure why that happened haha

As NoPoles mentioned, we're just about to implement a massive change to the way images are hosted on Newschoolers. This will probably break a few things at first, but then allow us to fix all these random bugs that happen. Image hosting is using a really old system, which is why we're overhauling it.

Yep - as soon as you set up the preview views start getting counted. Even if its only you checking it, the view counter gets incremented.

Yesterday we launched change to how images are handled and served on Newschoolers. The broken images issue should *hopefully* be fixed. If you do notice this issue again, please do your best to describe the error and what I can do to replicate it.

Yeah when I wrote my playstreets article I experienced photos not working and half my work being deleted. Nearly gave up on writing it as every time I pressed preview it deleted half of my shit.

This *should* be resolved now. We tracked down what appears to be all the bugs.

Please note - when writing big articles it is highly recommended to make your drafts in an external editor like Google Docs. Our editor is decent - but if its truly massive its much safer to do it in a word processing software which is extremely reliable at saving all your work.
