NC Ski Mountains 2014/2015
I'm driving up from Charleston, SC and interested in learning about NC's Ski Mountains/Resorts. Due to the 4-5 hr drive, I'll most likely need a hotel or cabin. I've only been to Sugar Mountain so far, and while I thought it was pretty decent size, I wasn't too thrilled with the crowds or the management.
Which NC resorts do you like and why? Can you recommend on site lodging or a nearby hotel/cabin?
I would say that if conditions are good go to beech because they have good terrain and have the best management between the three resorts (app, sugar, beech). they have a quad which is super nice and sometimes their park setup is on point. If conditions aren't too good then app is an option, its more known for park and it's smaller than both beech and sugar. for logging I always stay at my buddies dorms but there are a couple of motels around that im sure you can get a good deal on. Or if price isn't an issue and you're with people then you can just get a cabin on the slops of beech.
Thanks, we ended up getting a house on the slopes at App for this weekend. Looks like its gonna snow thursday, but possibly rain on Saturday... I sure hope the weather forecast is wrong...
Thanks, we ended up staying 2 nights at App while I taught family how to ski, then Sunday, when everybody felt more confident, we headed to Beech. I can see now how App is definitely better for Park or beginners. Beech was fun, but since most of the slopes are in the sun, it tends to be pretty slushy on warm days... Also, we had no Idea beforehand, but App is dry! Luckily we brought our own. Beech has a bars both at the base, and at the top which is nice, although I think I got the stinkeye from ski patrol for cracking a beer on the lift....
Will u be at app tomorrow
