Hey NS, Slvsh is a freeski matchup league similar to what Stept's Skate on Snow was. We've filmed 12 games so far. The first game, Noah Morrison vs Noah Wallace, drops tomorrow, October 14th, on http://www.slvsh.com

for sure. I just think it's equally as wack to hate on skiers for having "no style" (which is totally subjective) as it is to hate on kids for swerving around.

pinkcamo1000dude not every skier has to be a style skier. I've been a fan of the bunch since day 1 but I love watching taisei throw down crazy spins too. Some skiers are fun to watch for style, others for technicality. I'm pretty sick of the whole new wavers vs new wave hater bullshit that goes on these days, sometimes I feel like I'm the only guy on this site who enjoys watching both crazy tech stuff as well as swervy skiing

I completely agree and feel the same way. In the end it's all park skiing and every aspect of it is hard whether your new wave or creative, a technical comp skier, or got that gangsta steeze it's all enjoyable. That's why I love slvsh so much. You get a bit of all of it out of all 4 years slvsh has been around for.

Mark's blind surface should have counted. By watching his body he obviously doesn't jump during the swap, but rather does it right after he hops on and kind of bounces on the rail. Should have counted imo

It's pretty evident if you watch in slow mo, plus hunter and Charlie said it looked not surfaced in person, hunter was a good ref and both skiers were fucked. Gg 10/10

I disagree about the glass cannon part. I think he's got a versatile skill set and his niche tricks make him fun to watch. You'd think more people would practice sliding rails with their skis at all different angles anyway. Oh and also he did misty 450 Japan first try ever...landing was iffy for sure but it was valiant defence.

ehh, that argument doesnt really work. Thats like saying you cant do multiple variations of a 270.

As much as I like watching both styles, that game would be won quickly just because Vinny doesn't spin that fast (from what I've seen), and Taisei hasn't shown that creative aspect that Vinny has. It all depends on who gets the set after Trivia Crack rules. The best games are the ones where the skiers have similar styles and tricks.

Nope, I think the best games are the ones where skiers with different styles and tricks are willing to try each others' tricks. For example Magnus v Ethan or Hugo v Emil (dif enough?) off the top of my head. Matchups of similar skiers are often awesome too, but watching guys try (and lace) hits they'd never ordinarily do is awesome. This one of Vinny and Oscar, though, was not one of those games.

Looking back at the Magnus v Ethan matchup, they were doing tricks that they were both capable of doing. They built off of each others tricks to do even crazier tricks. That made that really fun to watch even with their different approaches to skiing. The specific case, Taisei v Vinny, is too drastically different in their styles of skiing where it wouldn't be AS entertaining to watch because I don't think they'd be able to build off of each others tricks to push the envelope similarily to what Magnus and Ethan did. Obviously I'd still love to see that game (and maybe we will). If we do see that game, I hope I'm wrong!

For sure, that's a good point building off of each others' tricks. But, you never know what someone is capable of until they do it. I would make the same assumption as you that Taisei v. Vinny might be too different of a matchup to the point they couldn't do each others' tricks. At the same time though, there is always the chance that it could be one of the best ever despite their style difference - you never really know.

Maybe I should change my opinion - Many of the best games are by similar skiers with styles and tricks that overlap well. But for me, the most entertaining games and some of the best of all time have been odd matchups where both skiers bring their own flavor to tricks they wouldn't pick on their own. That said, those gems from different styled matchups are more far and few between.

didnt ruin the game for me, but if u pause when vinny lands on and jumps off the rail on that last trick he was def not 50/50 pretty much completely sideways. BUT thats a tough trick to get super legit so maybe a loose call was fine. idk, as long as i can be invested in 11 minutes of skiing i dont rlly care too much about the technicalities of a call. such a dope event, cant wait for more games.

If we are gonna get nit picky about calls I wouldn’t have counted either vinnys or oscars tail press. It was a pop off of the tails at the end of the rail. But if I only have one questionable call from woodsy he’s still the best slvsh ref ever so can’t really complain.

I feel pretty conflicted about this game, on one hand Vinnie has been around forever, is a great guy and it was nice to see him win. One the other hand Oscar is overall the better skier and Vinnie had some questionable calls in his favor.

Unpopular opinion, I really liked that game. Watching vinny $ drop all those new unique tricks he’s been doing the last few years was sick. It really showed how hard they actually are seeing as Oscar, who is a insane skier, couldn’t lace many of them up or get that close. I enjoyed watching the two different types of skiing collide as vinny has transitioned from stock tricks.

vinny vs oscar has me hella triggered. if oscar knew vinny was gonna play dirty he should've just done unnatty doubles off the hip 5 times in a row. such a dumb match. ref'ing in quinns match was absolutely fucked. i love vinny, but wtf... this is probably why henrik, a hall, woodsy didn't compete this year... fly across the world and lose because you can't do a mute with your pole basket. lmao

To say Vinny was "playing dirty" is pretty lame. Every skier has their own unique bag of tricks. One of my favorite parts of Slvsh, is that you have skiers trying things they never would have thought to try, and its cool to see each person try things for the first time. Vinny had never done a misty 4 out before, so by your logic, Oscar was "playing dirty". I think you have a flawed view on this whole thing. Maybe i am misinterpreting what you said, but no one here is playing dirty. The guys setting the tricks are skiing how they personally ski. and its rad to see the opponent try to match it. BITCH.

I'm so glad everyone complaining about Vinny don't have any control of slvsh. The reason it's one of the coolest things in skiing is because you can call as much or as little of a trick as you want, not because you pre agree a bunch of stock tricks and you do them every game. Also if you don't think Vinny can do big tricks maybe check his trophy cabinet, he has my favourite big trick I've ever seen.
