How to help a depressed friend?

So I started talking to this girl recently who is wicked chill and an easy 9 (won't post pics so don't ask). We're pretty tight and she recently told me she's been like really sad lately and feels like no one cares about her after switching to a new school senior year, loosing her friend group and having her ex cheat on her(broke up 7 months ago). She has like said some pretty depressing shit about how her dad left her and how she feels like her life is worthless to everyone. I've told her that this is completely false and recommended seeing a therapist or something but she said she doesn't know what to do/ doesn't want to and that only stresses her out more. I'm chilling with her most of this weekend in hopes of lifting her spirits and have already tried to do so pretty hard with little to no response. She said she just wants to hang so we'll probably just watch movies and stuff. Just need some tips or anything from people who have been in a similar situation. Thanks for reading!

You can't talk her out of it, just think of some fun stuff to do to get her out of her head for a little while. Take her out and do something cool. Watching movies is okay but if you can think of something more active it would be better, just so y'all aren't sitting around cause that's really not very beneficial to her mental status. Doing something physical will make her feel less worthless. Sitting on the couch watching a movie will make her feel like she's incompetent and doing absolutely nothing, which is how she already feels so try doing something different. Change is good. Activity is good. Friends are cool.

Honestly, just proving that you're there as a friend should help her out a lot. I use to deal with a lot of depression. I had A LOT of family shit going on all the time. The only thing that stopped me from being upset about life was laughing with my friends. We would just drive around, watch tv shows, youtube videos, walk around drunk and just have a good ol time. It helped me a lot but that's just a personal thing. I'm sure if you watch some comedy movies or take her out for some food she'll be grateful for the help man. Best of luck!

^ This. Try to spend quality time with them, instead of just a lot of time. Get them to do cool things with you, adventure outside.

definitely getting her out of her environment to do more positive things will help a bit, but if you're willing you can always suggest helping her find a therapist, and take her there on her first meeting to make it easier for her. usually i would think if someone's talking about this it's because they're looking for help somewhere. but feelings of worthlessness is a sure sign of depression.

you souldnt try to make her do anything or force her to try to be happy, that just makes it worse. depression is the feeling of not wanting to do anything. Just let her know that you will always be there for her and if she is feeling down, she can always go to you to vent. You just need to let her know she is not alone
