I realized today, after 22 years on this pleasant earth, that the phrase "Up and at em" was not "Up and adam."

I feel like such a dingus. I never understood how telling someone to wake up was synonymous with people named Adam, but I thought nothing of it. Today I realized it's a completely logical saying that means get up and ready.

I also was told growing up that if you crossed your eyes a bunch your eyes would stay that way. My parents used to say it. I assumed that's how people with lazy eyes got their lazy eyes. It wasn't until I was off in college and about 18 that I realized you can cross your eyes as long as you'd like and not have them stay that way.

MFW I realized these things





Anyone else have these sort of things happen to them that may make me feel better about my self?

I couldn't remember any when I first saw this thread.

Just remembered that I used to think it was itso facto. One day I decided to google it for spelling realised I had been saying it wrong for years. It's actually ipso facto and is derived from Latin.

Growing up, I thought Derek Jeter was Jewish so he served as a perfect role model for me. It wasn't until about age 11 that I found out he wasn't when I read his biography. My whole world was shattered that day.

what is wrong with all of you people regarding Disney? I mean-- didn't you recognize that Disney, would have "Disney" on their items? Not Gisney, Digney, or Disnep? Didn't you recognize how that didn't make sense?

I wouldn't go to a Toyota dealership, and a buy a new toyota, and think that the cursive on the back said "Topota"...even if it was a blatant "p"-- I'd go inside and be like..."why does your 'y' look like a 'p'? I would understand that no matter what it slightly resembled, it more than likely says Toyota for God sakes.

I'm pretty sure it's craps shoot-- that's what I've always thought--like a roll of the die in craps. so "its a craps shoot" would mean to throw the die in craps...you don't know what you're gonna get.

just looked it up and its crapshoot...and apparently "a game of crap"...still, its not "crap and shoot,"...also, why do they call it craps in casinos if its really just crap?

Up until age 14, I didnt know the "xing" on street sings meant "crossing" and I was always too embarrassed to ask what xing meant, so I figured I just didn't know the word.

i didnt notice the toronto blue jays logo is actually a blue jay until i was like 12.

i waz always like wtf is that thing? it doesnt even make sense.

then when i finally noticed i couldnt tell anyone cause people were already suspicious of my retardation, and this would have just solidified it.

Wow, just learned this week that "Divide and Conquer" is the opposite of what always thought it was. To me, it made sense that the people doing the conquering, go out there dividing themselves to conquer everyone.... Like divvying up from different directions and areas... Gonna have to work on this one

Hard to explain over text, but I thought facade was pronounced 'fa-kade" and facade how it's actually pronounced was spelled "fasaed" or something along those lines, I still knew what they both ment, just didn't realize they were the same word until my friend called me out on it hahaha

I'm so dumb, before I ever learned how the Earth and sun worked I had only known that the farther you go south the hotter it gets, when I learned about Antarctica and how cold it was I was super confused. So I made the assumption that it was so hot it was cold, and this made sense to me because I had once put my hand under burning hot water to the point that it numbed my hand and made it feel cold. I was like 5 so give me a break
