Thank you all for coming. It's sad to see that our beloved friend the NSG has passed away at the age of 14. An autopsy has shown that the NSG died due to over censorship, and a overly authoritarian environment.

We will share our favorite moments we had with the NSG.

DingoSean30-40 idiots who want to hold onto their dumb OP jokes, no matter how outspoken they are, take a backseat to the hundreds of people who WOULD post in NSG, and WOULD spend more time on the site if it weren't for this amateur hour crap.


read the thread it is the people(mods and elgato, who was a mod) asking for them to go away who are outspoken, everyone else is against it. It may be different in different sections of the site, if so mod those sections more or less strictly

No, you read it again. He said that people WOULD be posting in NSG if it was different. Meaning that those people likely wouldn't be reading or contributing to the thread.

And it's not everyone else who is against it. I don't post as much as I used to, but what I see is the usual suspects (you know who they are) arguing for no moderation, and every other post saying otherwise.

Regardless, it's not like it matters. Someone posted in the sticky (I'm paraphrasing), 'the decision's been made and it's happening, so if you don't like it, too bad.'

i see you invisible people who would be posting if the moderation was stricter and raise the invisible people plus one who would be posting if they were even more relaxed.

First, I'm not pulling anything out of my ass, although I did just take a lovely poop. I was only clarifying that your post didn't make sense in the context of quoting Dingo's. Anyways, there are approximately thirty people tops arguing against it. There are over two hundred thousand members on this site. Just because these thirty are present, butthurt, and ready to argue, doesn't mean that the interests of the two hundred thousand should be overlooked.

However, the admins have made a decision to corral forum conduct, regardless of the interests of anyone. They run the site, they keep it free, they call the shots.

Besides, in the bigger picture of things this changes so little.

Define "piece of shit".

I mean, if the thread topic is just lame, call out the topic no need to call out the OP, or even better just don't post in the thread...let it die. But if the OP is actually being a legit piece of shit then I don't see a reason why not. For example, if the OP is talking about he beats women during his spare time I'd be fine if the thread was full of "you're a fucking asshole OP" until the thread is gone.

Just wanted to drop a little clarification here. These new rules are not 100% unflexible. We know what NSG is and was, and who the members are. Take these rules as suggestions on how to carry yourself. Will the occasional "OPs mom...", Memes and thread derails be let happen? Of Course! Do we want every thread to be full of them? Hell No!

Is this going to piss off the small group of members who are the biggest offenders and treat NSG like 4chan? We know it will, but if that is all they want NSG to be, then maybe they need to find somewhere else to play. The larger population sees NSG as a trash pit, and it has really started to affect the overall image of Newschoolers, and our Sport! When athletes, industry people and new members start telling us that they associate NS with the content in NSG instead of all the other great features and content we offer, then it's time to change our image. This is a first attempt at cleaning it up.

Don't worry, we aren't nuking NSG, just a little housekeeping. Play nice and everything will be fine.

This is basically what I'm hoping this exercise does for us.

I mean shit, if in four months we've toned this stuff down, a bunch of these types of people have left and the site is a horrible wasteland of shit....

Then I'll get down on my knees state "Whoops sorry we fucked up. There are officially now absolutely no rules on Newschoolers whatsoever."

You guys can all flood back in and post nothing but OPs mom 24/7 in every thread on the site and return it to the wonderful place it used to be. We'll all thank you and say sorry we didn't realize how much we loved your bullshit.

I don't think this will go that way, but who knows.

That means nothing though... I haven't even voted lol, and maybe most of the results are from people who only frequent NSG? That could mean a ton of older members who are in favor of the new rule haven't voted...

k but thats an assumption based on nothing. I could say the same exact thing about the other side and it would mean just as much as what you said. Or we can look at the numbers provided.

We don't really have a solid enough data set here. THe poll in here only has 127 votes and is far from scientific (though more people seem to have voted no).

In NSG the problem with the thread votes is its tabulated from all the post up/down votes. So it can't be used specifically to test if people think the thread topic is right, just an indicator of whether the thread is controversial and constructive.

Most people use the up/down vote to rate whether a post is good vs. whether or not they agree with it. Some use it the other way, but the data in a situation like this just isn't good enough.

There is also an immense over-reaction going on right now. The rules aren't even really changing.

Those were me re-posting the rules back in 2008 that had been in place since I started at Newschoolers in 2004. JD did noting but re-post that list and state we're going to do a tiny sprinkle more enforcement.

There is an immense over-reaction going on right now. If we all just chilled out, got back to it, NS would get better and we can all go back to our lives. Hell, give it a few weeks and then if the place has gone to shit go on the warpath campaigning for your freedom.

The benefit of this situation will be the fact that you get to actually bash people with bad opinions vs. just stupid posts. You can be witty about it because they were smarter and thusly immensely more scathing.

Give it a week. You'll be right back into a slightly adjusted groove.

I have never, and will never, use those. I came here because i used to ski 100 days a year. I came for the skiing and stayed for the lols.

Why didnt you leave when it started to become shitty?

We are all addicted to this site. Its not easy to quit. It really is kinda neat how addicted most of us are. You might tell yourself youre not but anyone who posts 5+ times a day has an addiction. Im glad my school is starting soon so I can cut back. Not because i dont like it here anymore but because i dont think its healthy or productive to spend this much time on the internet looks at mindless crap

Meh...to each their own I guess. I just find that in order to find something interesting, or hell even ACTUALLY funny, not just fucking stupid, you have to sift though too much shit. To be honest, if Mods and Admins are cracking down on it too much, maybe you guys should take it as a sign to actually contribute to a conversation in a constructive way once in a while. I mean, I used to go into NSG a lot years ago, sure there was the same bullshit of people saying "pee in her butt" or "this thread is now about pokemon"...but those same people would post in a legit thread in a constructive way more than they would attempt to ruin threads. It just seems to me that people are just trying to ruin threads for no real reason.

The fact that this post only has two upvotes goes to show how stupid the majority of NS is.

BWalmerI think it's actually pretty funny how all of you are complaining when it's worth noting that Jamie is a big proponent of toning down NSG...that's coming from someone who was permabanned TWICE and was easily one of the mods least favorite members, yet he managed to turn it around and become a mod, the head of the photography content producers and a yearbook editor...and he still has fun on this site...seriously, if he's saying tone it down, it's clearly gone too far, haha.


This development makes me uncomfortable to this day.
