_J.T.lol some hand made ski companies are just as much as the factory produced skis....
No shit Sherlock! Why wouldn't they be? Technically indies should be double or triple the cost of the mass-stamped skis pushed out in 10k+ batches. The fact that they're about the same price simply means that if you buy mass produced you're taking a big fat 'ol retail/marketing dick right up the ass. By paying $800+ for a pair of skis pressed in fucking China with smaller edges, crap base material and whatever the minimum industry material standards/norms will let them get away with for ~$40 you are literally saying "No, I don't want more for the same amount or maybe even less money, just give me whatever you've got from that company my dad has heard of before that has a cool graphic, I'd like to pay for their next glossy ad in Skier Mag or something rather than get more in the product I'm actually buying"
Indie skis generally get the best of the best in terms of materials and processes, are assembled by those who seriously give a massive amount of fucks about them and are sold at a fraction of what the craftsmanship would otherwise dictate in order to be competitively priced. Hell, my last pair of indies had a completely custom topsheet design, custom flex and layup, and even a custom base color- all for several hundred less than I would have paid if I went retail shopping for a similar mass produced hybrid layup ski.
You don't have to buy indie, but I'd have to wonder long and hard as to why the fuck someone would pay the same amount for a vastly inferior ski that was made for "whoever" instead of literally tailoring the ski to yourself like a fine suit or just buying something like a J Ski because it's made from the best of the best. That's not to say a K2 or an Atomic won't ski properly, I'm just saying that you're buying a stamped product with minimal materials that's designed to maximize profit and minimize expense for the same money and that's fucking stupid. Walmart skis are for Walmart skiers. Don't be a Walmart skier.
