Yeah I know there were some rant threads over the years grinds my gears and whatever. I don't think any of them were that happening to dig up. I probably made one of them honestly. Whatever.
I figured if we could rant somewhere we'd be more docile creatures in the rest of the forums.
MinggThere are people who can’t make their picketing hours because they ran out of money for gas/transportation/childcare and the UNION hung up a POSTER MOCKING THESE PEOPLE.
Im about to quit. Not because of the company but because of the union, aka my coworkers.
Unions are dumb, go get your money elsewhere. I hear of hospitals around here paying top dollar for them.
Think it’s time someone protest and spotlight that union, holy fuck they are terrible, feels for all of you

On rails I think stain can look okay, but never really wanted to deal with it.
One plywood can be pretty beat up and rejuvenated with a good coat of primer and a coat or two of paint. I bought some rails once a long time ago, that looked liked the plywood came from a 200 year old fishing shack on the ocean. Made them look fresh. We didn't have the budget to buy new ply.
Anyway not only does stain fucking suck, but I'm having to recut and swap out perfectly good sheets of plywood that already fit because the stain is the wrong color or they're a little fucked. It sucks because anything that doesn't have a whole in it and isn't rotten is good for a little more with some paint.
The look of stain is cool, it's different, I prolly wouldn't on my own but it's not bad. It just seems like a lot of work when you have a small crew.
On the plus I got a lot of shit done today and put fork sleeves on every feature we have so they will be wayyyyyy easier to swap with the cat at 4am.
Hoping to get at least one new feature built. Going to try to get a few built every year. Have a few boxes we ordered for this season.
Also with how fall in the northwest is, trying to do some of the rail work in the late spring when it's sunny. For it raining and snowing almost the whole day I got a lot of shit done.
Idk, just sucks scrapping a perfectly good piece of plywood that has the wrong color stain or is a little banged up for stain. Some paint would make that shit look new.
Whatever winter is coming. Please hold off a lil longer on the snow though lol. when there's a few inches of snow on all the rails it's less than ideal for working on them.

We bout to get nuked with that BOMB CYCLONE!
you gotta say bomb cyclone like you are Zac De laRoca
theabortionatorI might actually go see rage next year feels weird raging against the machine for$130 but yolo. Almost saw them once in 08 but car broke down.
I'll yell bomb cycle if it can hold off for 2 more weeks of rail work.
I think you’ll get your wish the monsoon usually means warm AF
CaseyI think you’ll get your wish the monsoon usually means warm AF
I mean, warm and pissing rain is not ideal working conditions. Not really my wished. No real weather window in the fall. And the short ones we had have come and gone. Some while I was doing other mindless stuff on the mountain. Just at least if it's going to precipitate rain is easier to deal with because you're not standing in a few inches of snow.
Also for winter people get over hyped in the fall. I get it. It's cool, but a bunch of the people hyped af to ride nothing at the beginning of the season won't be riding in the late spring when mountains are dialed. Has nothing to do with working in it just like meh, fall snows that don't stick long term are just an inconvenience.
I'm not arguing against a big powder year, just saying that weather it's sunny and nice or occasionally snowing and melting really doesn't add to the snowpack. I can only start as early as they've budgeted for me.
Somehow getting a lot of outdoor projects done in and between some pretty shit weather though.
Are you staining rails and other features etc, or some other kind of project?
have you guys ever used poly urethane? Idk how much friction is created with PU but I use it for decks, and any wood a customer doesn’t want bees drilling into etc, seems to work well for sealing out rot causing moisture etc….might be good for snow stuff
I think I would really like your job or even being assistant or laborer to someone with your job…problem is I wanna ski not work, seems like it could be a fun job with the right people

Our house lost heat and water this morning. Clothes are all dirty and stuck in the washer. On top of it instead of figuring out shit out my mom wants to drive two hours to our cousins for the day.
ReturnToMonkeyNo I havent really. The problem is there are much fewer tutors and help sessions for 400 level classes, though. I think my primary problem is time/stress management. Sometimes i cant sleep at all if I have time, other times I dont have any time to sleep. That affects my work a lot I think.
Next semester I will actually have the least ive ever had and have full Tues/Thurs off. Then I'm graduated! But i intentionally made this semester loaded so that my final one (the one during most of ski season) can be light.
Yarnell Student Success center could help with management skills. And if it’s way overwhelming the student therapy is actually really good at MSU.

Yeah. I might liok into that if we want to stay with the same color. Usually eventually by the time plywood gets really fucked its beat up anyway. Again paint i feel like covers over s lot.
But one if the things im hoping inproves is sometimes rails end up with hopes in the pannels from cats picking them up in the snow and not getting underneath with the forks.
The newer cats have switchblade forks where there are forks that come back into the blade and you can spin out..they're at the top of the blade which means you can pick ip raios and set them down holding the tops making them stable.
I welded fork sleeves on our whole fleet. Basically now i can pick up rails and move them at 4 am which mean fresher setups for the people and me not having to get out of the cat and wrestle a huge rail by myself and risk getting hurt, or physically be unable to move it.
For example. There's a down rail in this setup. Couldnt find a better pic and lazy. The rail is crazy top heavy. I got the setup done but had to wait till 7am for one of the day guys to help me lift it. This won't be an issue any more.
As far as the work this is all off season work. This needs to all be done before the season. At the moment we arent open so nobody is skiing.(I've taken a few laps though when it sticks)
Usually for park crew daybstaff the labor revolves around raking and keeping the features riding fresh, testing them, setting up any fences and signs at the entrance.
Sometimes mtns are still finishing a few rails or building new stuff after they open but that doesn't require everyone.
Trying to get some more stsin ordered thats similar color so we csn get some good coats on everything and really seal them.
The seal i had was basically flubber at this point. Pushing around snails to eventually get the color. It probably just crazy old but all we had snd was frustrating lol.
But should be a good season. Day staff psrk crew us pretty fun honestly. I did it for 14 seasons before going full time in a machine. Basically every winter and a few summer seasons since i was still in high school. It depends on the place and some people wont like it but its at least a cool job to check out if you like parks and want to build cool stuff at the local mtn.

damn that sucks. Hopefully I can make it. Also hoping to make it to greensky in a few weeks. Right before we open, would be my last hurrah for music. Also the dates in Tacoma are right at the end of the season for RATM so would be sick.
There were a couple small shows I wanted to go to this fall but was too broke. Wanted to see some punk and emo ish hardcore type stuff for the throwbacks. I made it to phish with @signtime and @OregonDead. I think I ran into @PagesHouse breifly too but was too chaotic to hang really.
Idk, I don't go to very many shows these days so it's always pretty nice. I never stopped enjoying them, but I feel I really dig seeing music now that it's so rare for me.
Some of my friends still go to a ton of shows but I just don't want to any more. I'm busy and I'd rather road trip and camp off some dirt roads and catch up with friends across the country. I don't have a ton of $$$ so I spend it more on that.
Hopefully I make it to rage though! Would be so sick. Never seen them. Hopefully you can some how make it to one without getting totally fucked on tickets. Good luck!
mrk127Which mountain you working at this winter? T-line?
Crystal Mountain in WA. I may work at Tline again next summer. Covid made it impossible to go to Australia the last 2 summers. Not sure where that will be at or if I'll even want to go there at this point.
Idk where you're at but Crystal is putting some $$$ into the parks these days. Still small but we have a mix of features. Some new smaller shit for this year up to a pretty big fleet of tube rails. S tube, FD tube, Rainbow tube, Cannon tube, and a 40' staple.
Hopefully can build a small wallride. We were lacking in small features though so we got some small boxes this year that we really needed.
Hoping our jumps can grow a bit too if the parks can get bigger. The mountain is pretty down to expand the parks but we still have a pretty small staff. Come spin a few laps sometime if you're in the northwest!

I’m in central Oregon and probably can’t make it to Crystal this year even though I’ve been wanting to check out that place for a couple years. Looks like some killer terrain. I’ll definitely hit you up if you’re at T-line this summer tho. I’m thinking I’m gonna send it and pull the trigger on a summer pass

True i feel that! Yeah some really sick terrain. Snow holds really well here too. Sick! Yeah it was pretty fun down there at hood. Summer pass is $$$ But you can rack up a lot of days if you're skiing all the time.

Yea summer passes are wicked expensive, I’m tryin to figure out if I can really make it 30ish days to make it worth it. Last summer was my first year going to hood, I only went 3 days but I kinda fell in love with the place
Ultimate frisbee is fun as fuck but holy hell is it frustrating when your teammates just aren't good. Like you were standing still and you got tossed a fucking dime, how did it go flying out of your hands??? I'm too competitive for my own good which is unfortunate, and that's really the only reason I'm pissed I didn't make A team
Damn I fuckin love it when my parents have been gone for 5 days and when I come home from work all I get is a “there’s food on the counter we’re going to bed” my mom didn’t even have the decency to say hi to me. But when I come home from school and don’t say hi they get all fuckin pissy at me for sayin I don’t spend enough time w them. Maybe I’m outta line here and I’m wrong but that just seems fucked. Sorry for the rant but I’m mad and sad rn because of it

Most annoying thing in ultimate frisbee is when your teammate just stands in the hot zone and doesn't move. You don't even have to touch the disc to be useful, just keep the offense moving and don't clog
ReturnToMonkeyOne week ago right now I was feeling the same feeling. Still haven't finished the project..
got it done around 2am last night so at least i have something to show in class. but this is like the 3rd garbage project i've turned in this year. don't care too much about grades but definitely sucks to know that i haven't been doing my best work
abar. Most annoying thing in ultimate frisbee is when your teammate just stands in the hot zone and doesn't move. You don't even have to touch the disc to be useful, just keep the offense moving and don't clog
Never heard a truer thing man. Half the time kids just don’t clear into the stack or the cut from the middle and not the back and out possession falls apart. We had a tourney this past weekend and somehow out ho looks better than our vert
got out for a ride with my pops and dog on my favorite loamer and these fricken ladies couldn’t resist petting the dog while my dad is calling him and trying to get going casue its almost dark, finally they stopped after he yelled at them nicely
then further down the trail the exact same fucking thing happens with different women and this time this retard first pets him forever and then after pops keeps telling her to stop she wont just stop and move on, oh no she has to fricken walk him down thru the bush like 500m
wtf is your problem, like dont touch my fricken dog especially when im trying to ride and were not even on the same trails
cyphersnot sure if it is general anxiety or a result of pandemic living but i have completely lost the ability to make myself do work
pretty big project due tomorrow at 8am and i just... can't make myself sit down and do it? very frustrating
I had 3 big assignments due in the space of like a week. I had to neglect two of em too do a tonne of prac work for the first one.
I got one in on time, the next one (Project Proposal for Postgrad) was due on yesterday at 5pm. My uni is pretty lax with late submission. You only get docked 5% marks for each day you hand it in late.
It's weird how sometimes I can just get tonnes of shit done, then other times I can't even write a sentence.
larilinesignSays the guy who's seen Phish 96 times
I haven't been to that many. Okay, 92, close enough. Too many drug band shows for any human to see. Tragically not even the band I've seen the most lol.
Whatever ran into a ton of good friends at every show i saw this year, made it back to the gorge too.
absolutely hate that i need meds to function in a professional environment but i would rather deal with side effects than embarrass myself in front of people that want to hire me. haven't taken them in a year or so but clearly my sober brain isn't getting it done
thought i was so smart getting a design degree instead of something focus intensive like engineering but clearly it doesn't matter and i'm just gonna need to take pills either way. sick
Man fuck covid! My family’s been nothing but careful, wearing our masks in stores even after our vaccines in the spring, my mom got moderna in December/January cause she’s a healthcare worker. And she gets covid last Friday. The day they approve a moderna booster months to late for her and mixing and matching for boosters. She was scheduled to get her’s this week. She’s sick as a dog and starting to have trouble breathing and her docs want her to go to the ER and be put on oxygen. Fuck this shit. She did nothing but be careful, she works her ass off for the Hospital, running their Vaccine clinics and flu shot clinic. And gets rewarded with club tickets for the sabres game last Friday and gets covid that day. Why does bad shit always happen to great people

Thinking of her! She’ll get through it. With the vaccine she already has antibodies and her body is prepared to fight the infection. Even though it’s been months, she’ll have some protection which is better than nothing. I know it’s scary to go to the hospital and be on oxygen but if she isn’t getting enough oxygen, it’s going to be THAT much harder for her body to fight it off.
Unfortunately you can do everything right and things don’t go your way. That’s why we need everyone to take precautions. We’ll never eliminate the risk, just reduce it and the more everyone does the minimal the risk will be. Hang in there and keep us updated!

Thank y’all for the kind words. My madre is doing a little better but her docs put her on oxygen at home as a precaution, and ran some tests to see if she’d be a candidate for monoclonal antibody treatment.

So like uhhhh with how shitty the weather has been, my boss has been making the past few days of work "optional" meaning if you need hours, come on in and do something but don't worry if otherwise, and my dumbass is out there fucking cutting down willows and shrubs with a weedwhipper while there's 5" of snow on the ground. Wasted 8 hours of my day that could've been spent studying.
I'm such a cuck that I like can't ever say no, feel bad about fucking over my already thinly-staffed crew of coworkers by calling in sick or not showing up, but i just like can't fucking stand shit anymore and can't get the balls to say "No". I'm fucking worn out and tired and sad and just want to go ski and someone to give me a hug or some cutesy shit like that
