I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

skiermanPlay around on the original Rampage site then. There are numerous one hits, multi jump lines and very well established freeride lines with very little to no consequences if you fuck up.


+1 for this. The og rampage site is an awesome playground, there's always riders there kicking about who will tow you in for the jumps if you ask, and there's a pretty sick little campspot just opposite the site too right next to a stream.

I am going to revolutionize mountain biking today. I completely took out all the oxygen in my tires, fork and rear shocks and filled them up with helium. Tmrw I will be flying on the bike park jumps. Hopefully file a patent if this all works out tomorrow

Funny thing is I’ve heard of XC racers putting nitrogen in their tires to save a few grams haha

Idk why anyone would do that, Nitrogen is 3% lighter than air. Marginal gains I guess

My guess would be consistency, moisture in the air can condense when pressurized and do silly things whereas nitrogen is guarenteed to be 'dry'

Well absolute black has that graphene infused lube that is crazy expensive for a few percent better results, soooo that’s the world we live in hahah

Checked out the OG rampage site, man was that crazy. Can’t imagine what the newest site is like. Can’t believe they were sending this shit in 2001.

Ended up riding Nephi’s Twist. Shit was to fun, some of the alternative lines were crazy. Would recommend for a chill afternoon ride.

That ridge in the background with the white dirt is really fun to ride. The drop you're looking at was used for the TGR film Accomplice I believe. If you go behind that ridge in the back, you'll find some really massive stuff including the phantom jump, first hit in this edit

Some female riders went and filmed an edit at the old site last year it was awesome. I feel like the new one is better for spectating.

I have the Shimano Pro Team Compressor and it works well, and is affordable. It can attach to virtually any floor pump too.

Whats the deal with lighting if I want to ride at night? It'll be dark and in the woods, low intensity XC type stuff so I'm not going 50mph, but the trails are tight.

Crazy to consider elite racers like Brendog, Kade Edwards, Finn Isles., even Gwin in recent years...they're all properly fast and talented riders. They're some of the world's best and will absolutely wipe the floor with the average top local racers. But the Frenchies - Bruni & Pierron are just simply another level up. The Elite of the Elites.

On his day, Danny Hart pips them now and again, and Greenland got an amazing win last season too. But on pure race pace, nobody can touch them.

If Finn Isles had consistency, maybe he'd be on that list, but he can't match Bruni without riding just beyond his limit, which just goes to show how insanely fast the top two are.

Thoughts?

Eh. Sorta, not really?

For some reason those french dudes get put into this "class of their own" in some folk's minds, almost equivalent to Rachel Atherton's dominance. But the actual stats and splits don't quite back that up IMO. Of course, anyone who wins a world cup is an "Elite of the Elites" but that's the whole point. And historically, plenty of other riders have had really successful seasons. So I don't see the last two years as that exceptional. Putting Gwin, Hart, etc in some weird class of "way faster than your local legend, but not legit podium contenders" doesn't make sense to me at all, and historically their results would beg to differ.

Anybody who is in the top 60 who actually qualify for finals is "some of the world's best and will absolutely wipe the floor with the average top local racers."

Anybody whose name we actually know (like the guys you listed) is an "Elite of the Elites." Those two frenchies have had two good years. How many strong years has Gwin had? Minnaar?

I'm stoked to see racing start back up again, but I'll be surprised if those guys have another dominant season. Especially since Pierron just broke himself. Skierman often says true things in an offputting manner, and this is a classic example.
