AsherDonati24been looking at getting a new bike next season. If I were to get a hardtail, I would get the Marin San Quentin 3. If I were to get a full suspension bike, I'd get the Canyon Neuron CF 8.0. I'm interested in a handful of other bikes, but these are my top 2. Anyone used either of these bikes? Also, any recommendations. I'm in NH (right next to Loon) and will be doing a lot of trail riding and exploring.

BiffbarfI don't have experience with either of those brands, but it is worth checking out your local bikes shops. On one hand, I'm all about ordering direct-to-consumer bikes but on the other it is amazing having a relationship with a local shop that'll have your back when something breaks. I know that probably doesn't help much

paige.I decided I couldn't justify the price of a Whistler pass this summer because they got rid of the Twilight Pass and Ladies Night. Spending $800 for a few weeks of riding lifts solo just didn't make sense. And since I wasn't going to be riding it I sold my beater Specialized Big Hit to a stoked 11 year old. Apparently he already has a cross country bike and a dirt jumper, but his dad has decided it's time for him to start riding downhill as well. Got the same price I paid for it within 24hrs.

I know it was the right choice but I still feel kind of sad.

Currently live in salt lake city but between breaking up with my girlfriend, brutally hot and dry weather every day in utah, friends leaving for the summer, lease ending this month and new job being totally remote I've got this crazy idea of getting a month airbnb somewhere around Bellevue area to be closer to good riding and cool weather. Is there enough to ride within 45ish min of there to keep me entertained for after work rides for a month? Would plan some trips to bellingham and other parts of the state too. Watched a lot of videos from duthie hill and tiger mtn, both look friggin awesome. Really like rooty, tech riding in dense forest which we literally have none of in Utah.

CLQAnyone got beta on the Jackson Hole/Tetons? Going to do Lithium but not sure what else to do. How’s are the bike parks at JHMR and Targhee? Not really interested in flow trails or some big ride. Also how scared should I be about the grizzlies? I got bear spray but I will be riding solo...

I think it’s a bad idea to have it on your bike, say you come across a bear, get spooked, fall, have to ditch your bike, and then your only defense is still strapped to your bike. On the other hand if it’s strapped to your bike inside the main triangle it may be better protected in a big crash than if it were holstered on your hip or chest. I think it would have to take a pretty big hit to puncture it though.
My friend just got a bottle cage that is sized for a bear spray canister which is pretty nifty, but now he can’t fit a bottle in the main triangle. And it may be quicker to access than if it were inside a zipped bag if you can’t holster it to access quickly on the outside of a bag or on a belt

cadebucketIf you're still in utah check out american fork canyon. Its still pretty hot and dry but has some of my favorite rooty tech trails.

Welcome to the Tetons!

I only ride with bear spray here if I'm coaching, or bushwhacking on some super grown over trail, but your mileage may vary. Lots of folks bring it with them every ride.

For tech, Lithium, obviously, but I'd highly recommend a warmup on something else on the pass. Lithium likes to break people on their first ride. Blacks is a nice first pass trail, and easy shuttle. Then probably a Phillips Canyon (only gapers go down the ridge...) which can also be shuttled, or ridden as a loop (up Phillips Ridge, down the Canyon). The jump trails on the pass aren't typical "flow", other than Powerline, they all have fun techy sections, even if you're not into hitting jumps.

If you're staying on the Jackson side, Shadow is a nice ride with a cool view, if you're staying on the good side, we've got a zillion miles of awesome trail that I can point you to.

GANDALFCheck out Little Mountain in Mount Vernon. Easy pedal up, with a fun flow trail to ride down. Some other trails are going to be mroe XC oriented, but still fun. Super cool forest in there.
