I know there are more brown pow lovers on this site, yah there is pinkbike but lets be honest, newshcoolers is wayyyy cooler. so lets posts our rides, questions about components, mechanic questions etc in this thread.

I just bought this beauty and i definitely sacrificed uphill capabiltiy in order to get a beefier dh/park bike. id been on a nomad for a while and it's a huge switch in riding styles for me. definitely getting used to the weight and having to keep speed a lot more.

specs for said beauty, 2011 rc2 dh totem, 2012 dhx rc4, highrollers front and back (gona go dhf front and highroller in the back), mtx 33 wheel set, slx brakes, diablous cranks, FSA 760mm Handlebar, Shimano SLX Shifter & Shimano Deore XT Derailleur.

foolmetwiceMy bikes been in the shop for a rear wheel rebuild for over a month now waiting for spokes to arrive. Honestly fuckin with my mental health at this point. I just know its finally gonna b ready the second riding season is over. Also I kinda get paralyzed in inaction whenever Im waiting for something. Really hard for me to make plans knowing that the second I get it back im gonna want my schedule wide open to ride as much as possible

Did you watch it?

It's exactly what I wanted. Fucking awesome, really strong riders, just enough drama, interesting challenges. So hyped. Also, adding this to the tally of things Skierman has been not-wrong about in this thread.

Idk how accurate this overlay I just made is but it looks like it got the ponderosa/wild turkey loops. Shame, it was beautiful up there.

Damn, that's super close to Lyons now. I remember back from the High Park fire in 2013(?), the fire started in Young's Gulch up Poudre Canyon, which was my favorite spot to ride near Fort Collins. I rode it the same morning the fire started there. The fire up at Hewletts Gulch in the same region burned and I was the first mountain biker back on the trail after it re-opened. Lake Christine fire near Basalt also burned a great riding area and I've been riding it again this summer. As long as the fire didn't burn too hot, it will be back!

Just did the "it's snowing up high and the biking is basically over here" end of season bike clean, which means that we've got two more weeks of surprise riding coming. Ready for just a few more fall rides!

I kinda impulse bought a fatbike a few weeks ago. Local shop had a Kona Woo, brand new but missing some drivetrain parts that were taken off of it due to the unpredictable stock levels from the covid bike boom. Threw on a NX eagle drivetrain and a dropper post from my parts bin and its good to go. Has super short chainstays and a long reach with a slack enough HTA that actually feels quite similar to my trailbike. Went on a trail ride yesterday and it was about an inch of snow on top of the trail surface with fresh snow falling, and the sensation of having confident traction on snow was mind blowing. Honestly was just looking for something to make commuting and mellow XC trail riding less miserable and sketchy in the winter but I honestly see myself ripping this bike all season long.

I run one on the back of both my bikes, it's ok. It rolls well but tbh I much prefer a dhf. The dissector has a more pronounced 'snap' when it breaks traction whereas the dhf will let you know a lil more before it gives.

I run it on the rear of my enduro. I had them front and rear on my xc bike for a while as well. Great dry condition tire but also pretty versatile. I did the muddiest enduro of my life running it on the back and had no issues

My derailleur just broke.

Not even on a trail, just biking back from my school. The pin that holds the cage to the pivots snapped and my cage fell most of the way off. Really fucked up my roughly 2-mile ride back home...

It sucks because I definitely do not have the money for buying ski gear, fixing my car, and now fixing my bike too.

Shut the fuck up. I work at a bike/ski shop. I will tune and install my own derailleur. My worry isn't the installation, its the price of potentially having to purchase a new one. Your idea of cheap is probably very different than mine, dipshit.

The derailleur I'm replacing is $225. I'm sorry my job isn't paying enough for a lot of expenses right now but that's my problem and you don't need to be a dick about it.

I'm sorry but I would like to replace it with the same derailleur. That might not be possible because of the price but that is my preference. I know that other derailleurs can do the same job but then I might have to buy a new cassette if it's not compatible. My job provides some industry discounts but not a ton for bike parts. It's cute how much you care about me tho ;)

Even a SX eagle derailleur doesn't hit the $50 price-point on wholesale cost, and SX is shit and fuck Sram for bringing that sloppy shit to market when NX was already marginal in the first place and now every pricepoint bike has SX when used to have NX for a similar price. I agree with you on this, but at lest be realistic.

I'd be pretty surprised if you can't get it warrantied, Sram is pretty good about that. I got a GX derailleur and the plastic cable guide immediately after the housing stop cracked only a few rides after installing it. I bought it through my local co-op and we typically don't have to handle warranty claims so I just dropped it off at a different shop and they were able to get a newer warranty replacement. So as long as there isn't indication of a huge impact that would have caused the failure you should be good to go.

anyone spent time on the current Banshee 29ers?

Been riding the Phantom recently and really like it, but as a not-tall person, the longer chainstays are still taking some getting used to after a few weeks. Love everything else about it though. Haven't spent much time on short-ish travel bikes and I've been liking the Phantom a lot more than I expected. Mostly makes me want to try the Spitfire.

I could get used to having real rideable falls. Like, the desert seems nice and all, but it's pretty cool to be able to get up high and ride trails with roots in November.

So I grew up riding bmx mainly doing street stuff like river gaps and stairs. So this is my first time riding full sus ever..... and holy crap the reign straight up eats up, super easy to bunny hop pushing off the rear shock. Can’t wait to take it out on the trails dis weekend!
