ESPN's X-Games to Include Call Of Duty Tournament

This summers upcoming X-Games are going to include a COD tournament. I believe that it does not match the X-Games model or that it fits in. Lets here your thoughts on this issue also what do you think of video games as a sport.

just like fuel tv switched to boxing, espn x-games is switching to gaming. they go where the money is and if this increases viewership by a lot action sports will probably be completely cut out

Not surprised at all. I mean they had that stupid "crowd vote" shit and all sorts of other stuff. On the one side it's the best athletes competing on some of the best courses but xgames has been going downhill for at least the last decade.

On one end it's great, the sports are getting recognition, there's money pouring in, and the xgames are successful as fuck. On the other end, the xgames used to be the shit.

I'm glad they got rid of the fan voting bullshit at least on the major comps. PK Hunder got robbed in 2009.

And FAKIE TO FORWARD 720 into a FORWARD to FAKIE 1080, he hit the HALFPIPE AS WE CALL IT. God the announcing blows so bad.

I mean, Im not one to argue that professional gaming should be considered a sport, however it find it very stupid that they're choosing Call of Duty rather then a true professionally competitive game (Dota2, CS, SCII, WarCraft, Quake)

Can't believe they picked a terrible highschool players wet dream xbox game over something that people around the world have made millions of dollars playing.

I'd jump on the trampoline, ride my mini ramp, hit dirt jumps for like 8 hours of the day in the summer and play video games for a few hours. Now I rock them out at night. I like call of duty even. It's a fun game. It's gone down hill but it's still fun.

That said it doesn't have anything to do with sports at all , and definitely nothing to do with action sports. It does however fit into the demographic that X is always trying to reach.


Would be a lot cooler if they had a skate tournament, thps, or dave mirra. But it's not as much about relating the tourny to the contest as just adding something that.

The xgames are like zumiez. They're built around the sports we enjoy, but they don't make their money off of core athletes in the sports, they make their money off gapers and their families.

on the other hand, "E-Sports" "pro-gaming" "streaming" is fucking god damn stupid. First pro should never be used to describe gaming second, remember back in the day before online multiplayer and you'd go over to your buddies house to play playstation or something and they would never let you play and it was boring as hell....that is what streaming is, and the people who actually sit there and watch a stream of someone playing a video game have absolutely no life.

Video games are meant to be fun, not a career.

I wouldn't say call of duty should be in the x-games but MLG should be its own thing.

I used to have a clan on COD a few years ago and we were going to try and go into a tourney because you can make some decent cash from playing games professionally(we figured why not we were pretty decent and might just make a decent bunch of change for just playing a game we enjoyed). Shit fell apart though when one guys tried to take over my clan because he got way to serious about shit and only wanted things his way. He made his own clan and basically bad mouthed the shit out of me saying I said a bunch of false shit(can't remember exactly what was said it was so long and so many fucks not given ago.) and I decided it wasn't worth my time. So I just deleted all the guys from the clan in my friends list that left. The best part was hearing how the new clan crumbled under the "new management". Now I look at playing Call of Duty as I don't want to compete in anything I want to do as a hobby/for fun.

What a fucking joke. Last thing I want is something I use to define me with a pathetic fucking game. Embarrassing to any X-Games sport that they are all now going to be associated with a bunch of lazy ass, low-life, video game playing dweebs. Complete slap in the fucking face this is.

However, I understand why they're doing this, because I think that COD is a major sponsor of X-Games and this is more of a marketing ploy for COD and business decision for ESPN (I'd assume X-Games isn't a big money maker for ESPN).

im sure the chads over on the xbox forums are complaining about how they have to share the comp with skaters and skiers and other "extreme" athletes. respect what they enjoy doing because most people think we are fucking idiots, jumping and flipping and the stunt ditch and grinding the handrails, in the same way we are saying the pro video gamers are fat lazy low lifes in their moms basement.

that being said, professional video gaming seems pretty wack

Maybe the Xgames always was what it is. Maybe it was just the size of the sports and everyone coming together that made it awesome.

Any contest that will just drop any sport at any time if the ratings aren't up is fucking lame IMO. Then if people want it they might pick it back up for a couple years then do it all again.

Xgames = the zumiez of action sports contests.

These tournaments belong at overweight 11 year olds birthday partis and sleepovers. Not in the competitions meant for ELITE extreme sports athletes.

Video games are made for everyone. Extreme sports are not.

Video games are the ultimate test of hand eye coordination. Yeah you sit on your ass while you play them but the talent base is enormous. Like for everyone who tries skateboarding 10 to 20 try video games. Too bad halo 4 sucks dick the golden years of halo are over

David walsh who made millions as a gamer used to be an all state wrestler and tennis player

If u are a top pro at gaming you easily have what it takes to be sick at lots of sports where hand eye is important
