Replying to The hard problem of consciousness
Basically what the hard problem of conciousness entails is asking how do electrical signals lead to our "experience" or "what it is like to feel".
I was thinking that when you feel pain in your foot, you feel it as if your mind was in your foot,,, as if your nervous system could feel at a distance.
Because of this, i feel like what actually makes us feel like we are experiencing something is the electrical connections and circuits in our nervous system and brain. Like what "we" or the feeling of we actually is is the information represented by the timing and structure of the circuits in the brain.
Looking at visual input lets say you are looking at a delicious piece of cake. Lets say your nervous system is in some primitive, unlearned state. First the firing of neurons in your visual cortex fire but they have no meaning to your mind. Eating the cake will associate neurons that fire with the image of the cake with neurons that fire when something delicious is eaten. So from then on the thoughts of cake will be inextricable from thoughts of deliciousness. The two things will become part of the same thought by some integrating form of logic.
It seems to me that what you experience is the actual lit up circuit information in your brain. Different thoughts together have different meaning just like delicious and the image of cake dont have the same meaning as delicious cake. So certain single neurons can be part of several thoughts, as is the case from what ive gathered.
I think different concepts and mental states build on individual thoughts which have different meanings based on what individual thoughts are used. Red can mean sexy in a dress or panic if its blood. Many of the same neurons are used in each case.
Should have posted this yesterday, i wouldve gotten more sympathy.
