Not even a little bit.

Legalizing/tolerating drugs doesn't make users and addicts appropriate parents/caregivers. Yes I realize not all users are addicts or parents. Pretty much every family I've worked with has drug/alcohol abuse issues. Life would be easier without either.

well some states have already legalized marijuana the other drugs like heroin and meth are illegal for a reason they mess you up bad! if your into that stuff than you obviously dont care about life so the police are the least of your worries. so if ur into those hard core drugs you aint gonna last long

You can buy weed legally in the US. Not in Europe with a very small exception. I wouldn't say it's "tolerated".

For clarification:

Chzec Republic has decriminalized all drugs for self use, along with Portugal
You can buy weed and truffels in coffeeshops in the netherlands and from what I´ve heard weed is tolerated in switzerland and spain by officials
However NOWHERE in Europe is any kind of drug (not even cannabis) legalized like in the U.S.

I don't know whether I agree with op since his statement was so brief, but I do agree with some instances. Americans are so uptight with alcohol that that they turn a blind eye to drug use amongst teenagers, yet if you are caught with any form of substance, you can be fucked for life. Also the first thing kids turn to is weed, and get caught up in this hyped-up pot culture, and leads way to having some of the shittiest house parties I've ever been to.

In summary, yes the E.U. laws on drug use are quite similar to the U.S.'s, the way drug use is perceived is much different, and E.U. laws revolve much more around teaching people how to moderate drug use rather than the impossible task of eradicating it all together.

Heroin and meth are not illegal for a good reason. Even if some aspects of the drug war are well intentioned, it's a very naive approach.


And OP is still on his kick about drug laws in europe which in the broad sense really aren't that great. There are different spots that are doing some things right but we should strive to model after europe as a whole.

Germanies drug culture is huge, possibly because alot of them have to deal with the guilt of their grandparents actions in ww2. But now, their view on drugs makes the us look like nazis. They have HAT along with switzerland and the uk.

How old are you? Have you had to face real life yet? I've met a number of burnouts that have tried to get their shit back together once the drugs were no longer an option. Their brains do not function properly, it's actually pretty sad

I'm pretty sure that if (some) drugs were legalized it would end up reducing the amount of actual drug use overall. People in the states have way wilder house parties and problems with young people binge drinking because they can't drink until they're 21. Go to Europe and the novelty has worn off because they grew up with wine and beer at the dinner table.

Same would go for weed. The rebelliousness would be reduced, people would be less likely to smoke the entire day away, and having it controlled would make it much safer. This can't be said for all drugs though because some mess you up so much that its too much of a health risk for the user and others around them.

You've got it on the one side but the idea that some drugs are too harmful and should remain illegal is severely flawed.


First, prohibition doesn't work. The parallels between drug and alcohol prohibition are huge. It didn't stop people from getting alcohol, it just made them criminals for doing so. For the most part the enforcement was far less militant but we can still learn so much from that.

Unfortunately we as humans don't learn shit from the past. We look to the future and then think "Nobody ever could have seen this coming"

Where would you draw the line on drugs? What drugs are too bad? What ones are safe?

One that would probably be banned still would be heroin. Why? Right now there are no labels, no dosage, nothing.

You could have done heroin plenty of times but suddenly you can heroin that's far more pure and OD. I'm not saying nobody would die from drug use but a lot of needless deaths could be avoided.

If drugs were legalized there would probably be a spike in their use at first. That said, would you go out and do some meth or heroin just because it were legal? I sure as hell wouldn't. The law isn't the only thing stopping you from doing those drugs. I mean people smoke weed which is illegal, so I doubt it's the law that's keeping them from smoking meth. They simply don't want to.

I would guess you would put mdma in the legal category? As the shit side of the drug war is huge in that department with RC city. Kid's doing mephedrone and all kinds of other shit thinking it's mdma.

If we want to waste 40 billion a year we could put that money into free treatment. The taxes we would rake in on drugs would be huge as well. That said if legalized it would be interesting to see the laws. You know the pharmy companies would lobby hard to make sure they had some sort of exclusive access to supplying some of the stuff. But even if importing it without the proper permits or whatever was illegal, we probably wouldn't be talking about life sentences.

The other point is the immorality posed by something that's seen as being so inherently good. If somebody wants to use heroin, meth, crack, etc, in their own home, who the fuck is anyone to say they can't.




Our drug policies are completely fucked, our drug "education" sure isn't helping things, there need to be some massive changes.


I can see marijuana getting legalized eventually maybe in a decade. But the other drugs won't for a long time if ever.


Another problem we have is doing things "because that's the way it's always been done". Not that our drug laws have been around forever, but for most people alive these days they pretty much have been. People should go through and get rid of all the dumb laws that serve no purpose. It will never happen but it should.

The thing about opiates is that if youre an addict then you quit, youre going to be an emotional cripple for the rest of your life and not be able to live up to your full potential. If you continue using opiates as 9 out of 10 addicts do, then youll be able to function normally. Opiates dont negatively affect cognition or harm the brain directly.

Also this is the case in german policy with their heroin assisted treatment. Austria as well is very tolerant of addiction with their morphine maintenance program. Both countries have histories of intolerance, but now are at the other end of the spectrum.
