Joystick... gonna last?

Im enthralled that all these new core ski companies are popping up, but i dunno if all of them will last. Poles are just the one part of equipment that stays pretty constant, and there arent a lot of variables associated with them, like for example skis. Im not just saying joystick, but many pole manufactures are expesnive. 60 dollars to me to spend on a pair of poles is insane, but thats just me. I got some kerma poles for ten dollars, and i couldnt be happier. Could someone supply me with a reason that i should spend 60 bones on poles?

the checker pattern is cool. i personally will probably buy some eventually, becasue i want some strong poles(those ski shop ones are made of low grade alu, and the joysticks are made of 7075, about the best grade you can get at a decent price). if you notice, any other ski pole made of 7075 is gonna be the same price. why not support joystick over something else?

I actually tend to agree with this kid, freeskier. Buying from Joystick instead of buying regular companies' poles is similar to buying Armada instead of Salomon. You spend more for a better product from a company that supports you. All this 'Whine, Bitch, Complain, I don't want to spend 60 bucks on poles' crap is really pretty sad. If you don't want to spend it, don't, but shut your useless mouth and let those who actually have some intention of supporting core riders do so. Don't bring Anthony down with your whining.

To interject, I dont have a problem with people selling poles for $60, and i dont really have a problem with the people who pay for them, hell, my carbon fiber poles were the best $50 i ever spent... 4 YEARS AGO. What I do have a problem with is all these 'core' companies which have popped up. Who in the fuck needs a newschool pole? Or the 'core' teeshirt companies? Im hardcore now, cuz im buying teeshirts from some proskier who needed rent money!
Having said that, I would just like to state that I too am a media whore.

Hexum, you don't NEED a Newschool pole... but if you're going to get one, wouldn't you rather get Joysticks than, for example, Scotts, or Rossis, or something? I'd rather pay Anthony...

from what i hear these poles are gonna be pretty high quality, like hard to break. i break poles all the time so if someone i know tests them and likes them i'll buy a pair.

i totally have respect for joystick, and would love to support them, but i will never drop that kinda money on poles. No thanks. If they made a cheaper version fuck ya, i use poles from value village that are 10 years old so i can afford to get new equipment, wear waterproof good jackets and pants, and try to support the companies that support me. Maybe in the future joystick will have more than one pole to buy, and maybe some at a lower price. if they do im in, in the meantime all i can do is hope they make cheaper poles, or when im not a student and working full time i can buy a pair of joysticks. im the meantime if you can afford it there is no reason why not to buy joystick.

and all the ignorant fucks on ns need to keep there mouth shut. no matter what side your on.

$60 is that bad, I paid $80 for Scott Dispatch poles, I guess their 'indestructible' and have a lifetime warranty.

it all depends on preference.. i have 30$ poles.. i figure my these will last me as long as i choose them to.. i mean any ski pole will break if u fall hard enough.. yes im sure the Joystick ones are super strong but the way i see it.. if u can buy 10-30$ poles and they break.. just buy another pair.. if u want to say that i', not supporting the industry yes your right... but im solely not supporting the freeski pole industry.. i am in no way affecting Line or Armada by not buying poles from joystick.. i love to support companies that will greatly affect me.. like skis, boots, or even i could argue goggles.. but to say that the poles that cost more are much much better.. highly doubtful.. if joystick poles are ur fashion item go for it.. if it's because u need the stronger material more power to you.. i just feel that, that kind of money is really necessary.

i have 5 dollar neon yellow, turqoise and white poles that i got at winhal mechanics off the stratton access road, some wierd place with wood piles and old skis and they work just fine

people complain about prices because alot of us can't afford alot of shit that's why, we pay for our stuff, pay our way through school, and pay to ski, and ya money is a big deal that's why it comes up. Or people are just really fucking cheap. In the end, all the best for joystick, support the cause. if you can......

i'm going to call this the gear disease. how many ppl hear actually use their shit until they need something new? some of you do i know but there are so many many more (most) who just buy the new hot shit just so they can rock it. that is both good and bad at the sametime; good for supporting the true companies but bad as it raises the style over substance factor...which unfortuantely is growing; rapidly.

some of the best kids i know have whatever the fuck they can find and when it comes time for them to get new gear will buy real deal stuff like joystick; and as well they should!! but if you are buying something just because it is new and the new hot shit etc etc, then you might want to think about what you are all about.

i was on there site and i could only find 1 pole if they wana make it i think they will need to make alot more modles i think 4frnt needs more then 2 diffrent skis out too they r realy sick skis but they need to get more skis out

I tend not to support the smaller companies at start. I would like to see them build a reputation using skiers that can afford their 'stuff' before I lose money on something that doesn't work right. If the company does a good job and everyone likes it, the prices will naturally come down and the poor skiers will be able to buy.

I personally love the idea of LINE's new reactor bindings, but I will not spend money until I trust that they are 'safe'. If they work well after a couple of seasons, I'll buy them. The same goes for Joystick.

Is Armada going to last? Is Line going to last? Is 4frnt, Ninthward, Libery, Faction, and the rest of the new upstart ski companies going to 'last'? Who really knows. I really hope they do, and you know you do too. I agree a 'pole is a pole' in the basic sense, but there are many different models, materials and forms of a 'pole'. If you are going to buy a pole, and plan on getting a stronger, nice and light durable, good looking, rubber gripped pole you will be paying the same price, or more. (Unless you are a penny pincher that must search for the best deal, or harass sales people like you are in tijuana for a special 'deal') These poles are the same price, so get over that. Unfortunately, they cannot go around producing many models of poles because the cost is too much, it is much easier to produce mass amounts of one thing, rather then a few(which actually makes it a bit cheaper for you). But wait, they want to produce a pole that is better looking, that is durable, that has a lightweight feel, that has very good rubber grip for grabbing rather then creating crap for you, yet you must hate. I am not saying GO BUY JOYSTICK, but your words make no sense. I much rather work the extra few hrs, and put a few bucks in the pocket of a person and company that is putting ALL of the money back into the sport you love, directly affecting the pros you all die to watch on the screen, at competitions, and in your little magazines. Why talk like you are too cool for the sport you love being a part of?

Whenever I think about this issue, I like to break down the comment of 'Support the companies that support us.'

What does it really mean?

When you pay your hard earned $60 for a set of poles... where does that money go?

It goes to Anthony. Anthony then makes money, and spends it on the now booming business.

The money from his company - some to advertising, all of which he spends on only the most core companies. Some will go to the team, who all will continue to filter it back into the industry. New riders will get jobs (Alex Balsen) and everything grows.

There's no loss. Giving your money to larger companies looses it's power for us, as there is leakage into the racing, rental, xcountry, and other departments.

The more our industry grows as a separate entity, the more power we get.

I hope Joystick lasts.

It is companies like Joystick that progress our sport. If small companies did not come out and give us product we want, the bigger ones would never do it. Isn't the Scratch the same as it has been for three years. With companies like Armada, 4Frnt, Joystcik, etc, the bigger companies have to then fulfill or keep up with demand. We are given more options, quality is better, prices go down. It is simple business.

But besides that, wouldn't you rather simply buy something from someone who does what you do versus a racer or someone who does not care at all about our interests?

If you support them, they are able to grow and have multiple products. That's how business works. And if they get more money, they can develop new technologies. Smaller companies are able to approach old ideas with a new perspective that the big companies will never care to try. Everyone on newschoolers should be buying products from companies like joystick if you want to see the sport progress.

and what the shit, I wanna buy joysticks, but I break a couple poles a year, yes they are junk poles, but, if you fall right the joysticks will prolly break too. So Im thinkin a week of riding, I fall wrong, and there I go back to 'borrowed' rental poles. That would suck.
