Adapter Advice

Okay, so when I initially bought my gh3 I was planning on just investing in mft lenses, but, now after seeing the limited amount of good mft glass, I have decided to buy an adapter so that I can use my old Nikon glass.

What adapters do you recommend? Is it worth buying one with an aperture built-in like the speed booster? Also, I have a nikon 70-300 which is quite heavy so Im looking for something that can support a decent amount of weight.

Do they seem sturdy enough to support a 70-300 lens?

The Novoflex's are sturdy enough for sure.

But if you are worrying about combining larger or heavier lenses with mirrorless cameras on a tripod, they recommend the use of the adapter collars:

looking at that picture of the adapter, how do you know how open the aperture is? Its just two circles.

Get the metabones one. Its half the price of the novoflex and its actually nicer.

The system it uses to change the aperture is smoother and more accurate (longer throw) than the novoflex. Even if you have lenses with aperture rings, it allows you to change exposure mid shot since it is unclicked and dampened.

It also has a removable tripod foot which is good for taking stress off the camera's lens mount with heavy lenses.

Look into a speed booster too. Definitely a worthwhile investment if you have a whole set of F mount glass. Basically turns all your lenses into two lenses.

I remember when one of my friends bought several Metabones adapters, they all came with some burrs.

The Novoflex is a 'dumb' mount and it's overpriced, but the finish is second to none.

When it comes to emount adapters the novoflex is perfect, Ive owned cheaper adapters before and it's completely worth spending a little more money.

As for the aperture adjustment you can make your own marks. What I did was rake a manual lens and put a piece of tape under my histogram and marked 1.4 - 16 and then put my g lens on the camera and marked a piece of tape on my adapter that were represented by the exposure value on my histogram. It's a bit janky but it works.
