A little mogul history...

hello NS,

just wanted to share with ya a little mogul history to get ya stoked for mens moguls at the olympics... this event is from 1998 in Australia. it was the first time they allowed inverts in the mogul course and created 'landing pads' for the skiers. you can see JF Cusson and more in this event! pretty much the coolest thing in moguls in my opinion still to this day! enjoy the video and a little piece of history!

I want to go to an event like this. Real bumps comps were fun, but this looks so ill. Especially with those stupid big/sketch jumps.

Why doesn't he go back to mogul skiing, I mean he won that comp in Sweden last year, I suppose it's not his best discipline, competitively speaking, right?

I think its retarded that moguls courses don't have 50+ foot jumps right now.
Would make the sport interesting. not only would it progress it but show real skills on the course.
But really the whole debate has come full circle. And why we started freeskiing in the beginning. But here we are, with FIS telling us how to ski.

Honesty, I don't want to ski park so much because I don't want to scratch or damage my skis on rails or other man-made objects.

They were expensive, and I like them fast.

I'm also a purist.

I don't think I'm the only one in that position too. But moguls and some banked ski-cross high speed turns: that is the future, ie mixing up disciplines, and of course having the skis to do it.

This is so sick. The ABOM mogul challenge is at my home mountain (mt Buller). It's still held every year. Only a few months ago we were sitting there drinking beers and watching the skiers who will be running through qualifiers in Sochi in about 35 minutes.

There's another story behind this mogul event. At the same time the Canadian skiers were at Mt Buller with the world's first twin tips - the Salomon 1080s - testing them before they went on sale. They didn't want to take them home so they sold them really cheaply to the Australians who put them to very good use.

I love this thread. There was another old comp I saw once that was ill. I'm pretty sure Tanner was in it. They skied a bump line, to a rail to another bump line and then to a big table. If anyone can find video of that, it definitely belongs in this thread.

I think that was Ultimate Bumps and Jumps in 2004 that TJ won. Can't find a video, but I remember Candide 180'd off a mogul at the end to hit the last jump switch.

There was a mogul event in the early 2000's or so in Ontario (or Quebec?) that ended with a big air jump. I believe Dave Crichton won it. Can't find video for it though. :(

I used to get so much hate for competing moguls when I was a kid, big ups to all ya'll NSers that step outside the park and take some time to rip bumps.

2018 olympic Moguls are gonna be so sick if they let them do dubs. Most of the guys competing are completely capable, but its FIS that wont let it happen.

Yep. The comps I wanted to watch two years ago were the x games, dew tour and I was stoked on the olympics. Now the comps I want to watch are comps like the B&E invitational and war of rails. Jam comps still show creative riding, which is (largely, not completely) missing from the 'you have two chances' slopestyle and pipe.

I just don't get this at all. In any/every sport, the governing and sanctioning bodies get erect at the idea of PROGRESSION. How many times in the push before X or the Olympics do you hear the hypenabout whatever new trick will be landed for the first time in competition? Can you imagine figure skating telling the athletes they can't do quad loops?

I saw videos of mogul competitors stomping dub cork 10s and dub flat 7s every try like 2-3 summers ago. I can't believe in the highest level of freestyle competition we are STILL seeing back flip iron cross and back fulls be legitimate tricks. I feel like everyone of these guys (at least CA, USA, SWE, NOR, etc.) should be tossing rodeo 7s with varied grabs, double backflips, dub corks, bio or misty 7. And, it's frustrating to know that these guys are capable, but are being held back by FIS.

There are some major flaws in freestyle, but man....I fucking love watching these guys and gals make KILLER bump turns. Sometimes I feel like I'm crushing bumps, skiing a great line....then I watch people like them and I realize what a shitty, shitty, talentless skier I actually am.

so stoked on the moguls comp, that shit was so hyphy, fast ass skiing and some seriously dope tricks. total bummer that they only showed a few of the runs.
