WHY THE FUCK DO YOU ALLOW PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SKIING, ANNOUNCE FUCKING SKIING? THANKS FOR POINTING OUT THAT HE LANDED SWITCH BUT NOTHING ELSE YOU DUMB BASTARD. THANKS FOR NAMING TRICKS SOMETIMES BUT GETTING IT WRONG 100% OF THE TIME. THANKS FOR BEING SOME HIPSTER FUCK WHOSE ONLY PURPOSE IS TO HAVE EVERYTHING EXPLAINED TO HIM! HE THOUGHT VICE WAS "MONUMENTAL" TO SKIING!!! WHAT THE FUCK DEW TOUR!?






I'm not really that mad about it but fucking shit this shit sucks.

1. It's not hard. If skiing is so complex that you cannot tell what a feature is or which trick is thrown by LOOKING at it, then you shouldn't have a job announcing it.

2. The announcer's job is to give a move-by-move account of what's going on. His job is not to hold the hands of the fucking gapers who happen to stumble on watching this event, his job is to entertain the FANS of the sport... you know a majority of those watching it.


Why is it now OK for people to do a horrible job? If you suck at it then you shouldn't be doing it. It's not like these idiots will read "constructive" criticism and then magically gain all the knowledge needed to not suck at announcing an event. Just fucking replace them.

Rogge did a decent job for what he had to work with. Bring him back.

The announcing can be tuned out to a point, but what's with the coverage? I don't get nbcsn, I like to ski on the weekends, so yesterday I caught the last half hour of snowboard half pipe which was pretty boring, and today I caught the last half hour of ski slope style. Why put it on at noon and why show only a small portion of the whole contest.

You haven't been watching, have you? At one point the announcer felt compelled to describe what amplitude meant and it went something like this... "amplitude is what allows the skiers to fly through the air and to make it to the landing"...

Yes, it is worse.

Anyone else hear the announcers commentating for Vinni cashes' two up back-foot slide?...I didn't either. Disappointing honestly, there is such little air time on national tv, one would think the commentators would be prepared...You had one job...One job.

i mean, this happens during every televised skiing event (x games, dew tour, etc.) so it's pretty much expected now. let's not get all hot and bothered by it; it's not like we are relying on them to know what happened. if it were a radio broadcast it'd be a different story.

i felt really uncomfortable watching that skateboarder guy with rogge filling quiet time by just saying stupid bullshit and pretty much being an anxious douche on a live feed. rogge killed bitches though.

This. Yeah it was pretty bad at times, but why should I get that fired up over them not knowing tricks? Is it because all the gapers watching will end up messing up trick names the next time they go to the hill. They do that anyway, and still, I really don't fucking care, at all.

Yes, it happens every year, but is that any reason to just accept shitty broadcasting? It gives freestyle skiing a pretty bad image in my opinion. When you have announcers that aren't even capable of pronouncing the athletes names or calling the correct tricks, it just makes the whole event seem unorganized. The fact that it happens every year doesn't make it better, if anything, it makes it worse.

I almost felt bad for the skateboarding/snowboarding guy though, it seems like he was thrown into an awkward situation. They would flash the camera on him and Rogge and expect them to kill a bunch of downtime with little to no material. Even at the end he felt compelled to apologize for not knowing his facts on skiing, I know if I was supposed to commentate a snowboard competition, I'd be just as lost as he was.

If the announcers can't do it, what makes you think 99% of the people watching can? The only people who know they are calling tricks wrong are kids on ns. The general public has no idea. You really think some guy who knows nothing about freeskiing is sitting on his couch at him like "yo they called that a 1080 but it was totally a flatspin, this sport clearly sucks balls"

The announcers being bad doesn't give the sport a bad image since the people watching don't know any better themselves

Oh yes, that's why every other professional sports program has complete morons announcing every game/race.... oh wait, that's just skiing. The best and worst part about it is that idiots like you think it's completely fine. "Oh I don't care if my sport is represented by gapers. No one needs to know how difficult or insane certain aspects of the sport are. That's not important at all." FUCK OFF.

1. I always wanted to be the subject of one of Scott's threads. This is a big day for me, you guys.

2. Andrew is a skateboarder. They wanted him to host to show consistency amongst the three Dew Tour stops. He's a nice guy and did his best. As for me, I would not want to ever host a skateboarding event because I know nothing about it.

3. I was asked consistently to "grab" skiers as they skied through. I wasn't going to do that because if it were me competing, I would think that behavior would be annoying as fuck.

4. Dave Euler is a coach now. That makes me really happy.

5. Thanks for watching. I haven't announced an event since the Winter Park Open way back when. I always appreciate the criticism.

Mike Douglas doesn't look so bad after all now, does he? Announcers are bound to fuck up some trick names but this year's Dew Tour is pretty atrocious... And no, Tanner or Henrik would be awful announcers, regardless of how stoked they are. We need someone who can actually speak English. LVV or Colby West would be my pick, charismatic and know what they're talking about.

I've got an even better idea.

Get Edollo and B-Dog to commentate, but instead of speaking they rap to the tricks in the style of "XSlide to Switch".

It would spice up the commentary and educate us aswell.

Educational but inspirational.
