Heal Blister help?

So I got some new lange rx130's at the start of last year and used them all last season (maybe 90 days) with no issues at all. This year i have been doing a lot more touring and ive been getting blisters on both my heals from it. I never get them from skiing, but when i loosen my boots up for touring my heals chafe like crazy. Ive tried putting duck tape on them under my socks but that doesnt seem to help either. Any advice? Should i use a different style sock or maybe take my boots into a shop to see what they say? Anything helps!

You are touring in a boot that does not have walk mode, that is your main problem. Without a walk mode, your foot and leg are forced to move inside the boot, rather than with the boot. Blisters are caused by movement which leads to friction. If your foot is slightly twisting and sliding to compensate for not having a walk mode, you will for sure get blisters.

No sock can save you. The only option you really have is duct taping your heels before you go out if you KNOW it's going to rub... Which with those boots, it will.

Go on the preemptive strike with some warmed-up gorilla tape. Just watch it if you've already got open blisters, in which case you'll want to cover that with a band-aid first. This was my only solution when I was still touring in my Lange FR130s. It sucks but it works.

Really wish I came across this thread before Saturday. Went skinning in Head Overlord raptors (120 flex race shell) and now have a huge ass open blister.

Went skinning the week before to the same place with no problem.. but this time did it alot faster so guess just took it over the edge.

So really the only solution is getting boots with walk feature? cause if so that sucks so much. no boot fits my foot as well as the head raptor shell :(  guess ill stick to boot packing.

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I will have to just get a nice roll of gorilla tape as I don't have the money to get some new boots right now. Has anyone tried taping you heal with athletic tape?

you could try adding some extra padding around your ankles to hold your heal in place better, limiting movement will work a lot better then tape

Athletic tape will be nice because you can wrap it, but may effect how the boot fits and your circulation.

Also make sure to keep your liners as tight as you can get them when you're touring and loosen your buckles- it's the play of your foot inside the liner that's fucking you up. I mean, it won't be like touring with a pair of boots w a walk mode and an articulating liner, but it'll help a little.

Look for a blister stick. It's kinda shaped like a deoderant stick. I bought one for when I have new flats/shoes that haven't been broken in and it has worked quite well so far. It puts a layer of greasy gel down that reduces friction.
It may not solve your problem but seeing as it only costs a few dollars at the drugstore it's worth a try.
