in the lower east coast region, no. my local mountains (liberty/whitetail/roundtop) just got rid of their halfpipes because the dumbass whitetail park crew broke the pipe cutter or something like that (quite possibly the best thing the whitetail park crew has ever done). Their parks got 200% better, especially because roundtop now has a j-bar park where the pipe used to be and it is soooo sick.
In the west and northeast resorts like killington, pipes will be for:
1. competitions, pipe skiers and boarders who only want to ride pipe, like USASA and pro events/riders and stuff like that
2. a distinct mountain feature, something for gaper families who like to gawk at large features and ask questions like "has shaun white ever ridden here?"
