You'll need a powerful studio strobe, 500+ watts at least. Commonly used are elinchrom rangers, which cost and weigh quite a bit, but provide enough light (1100ws) to stop action even during the day. I prefer, and use two of, the Paul Buff Einstein ($500) with a vagabond lithium power pack ($280). The einstein has 640ws at full power, which if you hypersync is bright enough for a big jump with sunlight (I tested this at West Coast Sessions). The best part about the setup is that the packs are super lightweight, and the einstein has very fast flash durations to freeze action as you power the strobe down.
