Freestyle Skiing App

So I've been thinking about this project for quite a while now and I wanted to start if off by asking people their opinions.

Here are some basics already: firstly, this app will not be finished for around 4-6 months and I am currently the only one developing it

The game will have probably 1 map to start, then new ones added in the future, (I was thinking windells, and other famous ski mountains)

The game will be released for Apple users (iPad/iPhone), since I only have an App Developing licence for apple. I thought about charging $5-$10 for it, but I really don't think many people would buy it, so It will most likely be 99¢ or $1.99, I really would like to refrain from advertisements.

There is already an app like this for iPad/iPhone but It's not at great as I thought, I really didn't like how you control steering, since it makes it harder to see what you are doing IMO, and also how you fall everytime you make a little mistake, I did however like a few designs in the app, When you are in the air, and quick pop up menu comes out with a list of tricks, and you tap and hold to perform them, (I might make it so you can disable this, not sure yet) It also has so if you swipe up you go faster, but it failed to make a slow down button, another cool thing was, it tells you the trick you did

I would definitely like to include customization of the character and skis

I use my iPad for basically everything, and I find using iPhone's are to small for me, and want to hear how iPhone users would like the controls, I was thinking a dpad, left, down, right, up, in the bottom right hand corner, and the size of the dpad is adjustable

Anyways this is just a start, and feel free to add any suggestions/comments, I just need comments so I can get this started!

I like it! The only other skiing game I bother with is MYTP 2 or 3 or whatever and the clothing customization isn't what I'd love it to be. Also, the controls sound good, I guess see what others say. Good luck man!

Also, anybody have ideas for the name? I haven't really talked to Malcolm about making this called shredsauce, but it can all be figured out later

6 way virtual trick stick in the bottom left or right corner (optional) it controls butter movement on ground and grabs and tricks in air. in the other corner will be body movement, and a quick flick will make the skier pop (ie. skate style)

id love to see a "snow conditions" app.

like a weather app, but you can program it so that it displays your "favorite" or local mountains, shows how crowded the park is, hill is, how the weather is, what lift lines are like, that kind of stuff. that'd be rad.

And Anathema that sounds really sick, what types though? snowing hard, raining, sunny, icy? But for the beta I probably will not have AI's and I wanted to add a 'take off skis' feature, because when i saw a jib life video I thought it was pretty sick

Feel free to post a shredsauce custom course of what you want the map for the first release to be, or post some features you want, I've never been to windells but I'd like to make that the original map

I really need a name for this, I've been talking to Level 1 about it as well.

Can you have some semi-transparent controls on the bottom left and right corners of the screen? Trying to mimic a joystick on the left side sorta like a ps controller could work.. Never seen it done before

I haven't learned basically anything on online games, but once I do I'll probably make something.

It would probably start off with lobbies, like in GTA V, about 10 people in them, you can private host, or just join random.

Taking off skis would be neat, plus that way you wouldnt need session markers if your just skiing a single feature

I like the idea man, it's definitely something I would buy if it's done right. I don't know about the d-pad though, they take up a lot of space.

You should use drag controls, and then in the air you could use swipe combos swipe combos to do different tricks, kinda like using joysticks in skate

And no, you sound stupid saying this isn't a app, and it's a game, and app is an application and an application is defined by computer software that makes a computer perform tasks, an app is the program that you launch, not what's inside it...

holy shit, I realize this is a hard concept for you guys.

I'm developing a app for iOS, when you click that to open it, it's an app, whatever you do on it is inside of the app, I don't know why you act like you know what you're talking about

Ooo the r word. Just saying apps should serve a purpose, like trail updates, snow and avy forecasts, build in an apres meetup function, friend locator ect. Purposeful and useful vs fun and games.

Update:

I'm actually leaning towards releasing it on PC and Mac first just since computer users are more with gaming and what not, the mobile versions would probably be released 2 or so months after the first release for comp.

I need all of your help, you need to tell me what ski brands you like, because those brands, and those brands only(most likely) will be in the game (on customization). I started speaking to Saga and Jiberish representatives, and I need to know the skis you guys like, line, armada, etc. and I'm guessing FT for boots.
