Avalung or Air bag ?

Which one would you recommend ? and why ?

I ski mostly in sidecountry and some touring.
The terrain that I ski the most is like alpine stuff (rocks and cliffs).

How much do you want to spend? Are you going to travel and throught the US? I see you live in Chile where travel with ABS is sometimes difficult. Best bang for your buck. The float 32 is the way to go if you want to travel with gear because the 22 holds almost nothing. Its a true airbag and can fly in the US with the least about of problems. But for safety there is nothing better then the snowpulse bags. The way they go off and are shaped helps keep your head above the debris and keeps the trauma percentage down.When some other airbags place the bags above the surface but sometimes your head just in the debris if you get pushed around. Once you figure out which style to go with decide on size of pack and how much you carry. thewhiteroom

If money is no problem, buy a good ABS system AND an avalung sling or whatever it is called

Offcourse when money is no problem, you an always do this, but.. When you get in an avy, do you see yourself triggering the ABS unit + put the avalung in your mouth? (while tumbeling etc etc)

Well if you have an airbag, in an avi I'd probably just pull the bag cord and worry about the valung afterwards if I had time. Bags keep you from getting buried in most cases- I find that avalungs would be most useful in a treewell or something like that- where you can't get out but need to be able to breathe, and an airbag would be useless.

Each tool has it's use, and if you can afford them I can't think of a reason not to have both.

I got a float 22 and couldnt be more stoked. I love the fact you can travel with them easily, and refill them for $5! Its a great size for sidecountry and single day bc tours. Plus you can get one now for $350 with the canister!

Avalungs are great for tree skiing and tree wells. Staying on top in a slide I feel like is what provides the greatest chance.

hey guys, i'm not sure but can you take out from an avalung backpack the silence ? I mean to get only the avalung device ..

Trust me, It would be very unlikely that you will have time to do both. You are once you do one of them you are going to want to try and swim and get out before adding another step. plus a bag will probably keep you from getting buried in the first place when pulled at the right time thus never needing the avylung. thewhiteroom
