I just got my liscense and now im looking to buy my first car. I was just wondering if you guys have any suggestions because honestly i dont know too much about them. Oh and my budget is $5000

They make a GTI of this I think, should be fast or something. Or get a AWD outback

Worst suggestion by far. An outback that he could get for 5K would be sure to have multiple issues soon, all of which would cost a lot to fix. Look for something cheap, in good repair, with cheap parts/service. Nissan Sentra, Kia Spectra, etc.

Get a civic. For that price you can easily find a reliable, decently taken care of civic that will get you where you want to go and have some good fuel mileage.

volkswagen jetta or a golf if you can find one would be great so many of them parts are easy to get and I love the tdi's they last forever and get great fuel mileage also insurance is stupidly cheap

First off, what are your needs? A 4wd SUV for goin to the mountains could cost a lot more than a 2wd sedan for going to school and around the city.

2.2Llegacy wagon or 2.2L impreza wagon that is NA. You can also find a dead 2.5L subaru with blown head gaskets and just slap some new gaskets in there if you want to save money.

get something simple for your first car, my first car is a volvo 240 and its a good cheap and reliable car although i need a new exhaust due to rusted welding on both mufflers.

2.2 is a fucking bullet proof motor , thats for sure. dead on bout the head gaskets on the 2.5 as well.

Mainly for just getting to school and driving around town with friends but i still want it to be able to take me up to the ski hill

If you know how to drive, getting to the ski hill shouldn't be a problem. Just remember to actually save for winters and not completely fuck your self over.
