Tell me about the Canon 40mm 2.8 Pancake

Who has one? Who's used one? What did you use it for? What did you think about it?

I read a couple things about it but I want to know if anyone here has first hand experience. It's only $150 on B+H right now which kindled my interest.




I see myself using it as a walkaround lens.

I have never used it, but have seen it and it is really tiny. its hardly bigger than the lens cap haha. but for 150 hop on that

I have had the 40mm for my t4i since the day it was released.
I love this lens. I use it for portraits and star photography because of the 2.8 but I have also used it to film skiing. Mainly tripod shots due to the longer focal length and i have no glide cam but all shots have turned out awesome. I am never disappointed with the results. I bought it for 250$ and that was worth the money. Buy it for 150$

It's a very awesome lens for the price that you pay. It takes a little getting use to since it is a fixed focal length. I got some pretty awesome shots with it though! It is really good for taking portrait photos and other stuff

This, I can't imagine it'll be very good, + it's expensive and not hugely fast for a prime, there's only one lens inside it, so I'm not sure how well it'll handle ca.

Wtf? Didn't GOD post a thread on ns photogs of him taking it apart and there was only 1(although now that I think about it surely itd need at least 2 to focus)

hella good lense. great sharpness. extremely smooth focus ring and a great price. although i dont like how the focus ring spins a full 360 degrees but that is just me.

I feel like 40mm is an awkward length. Get a 35 or a 50...preferably 50. Canon makes a 50 1.8 for $120, shitty build quality, but superb image quality and sharpness.
