I remember watching the strikes on TV and I was scared that we'd have war in SLovakia...than my dad made me feel better when sarcastically noting that the only people we would fight are our neighbors haha...I can still remember it

So do you approve of allowing other counries to take over their smaller neighbors at thier own will jaross? It makes me so frustrated when people make the broad statement of 'I am opposed to all war' when in reality, the only way to gain peace is through war. Obviously war sucks. People dying sucks. But sometimes its necessary.

Jaross- then how the hell would you repel a conquering force from invading a country? Politely ask them to leave? I really want you to explain exactly what should be done in that situation, and you cant sidestep and say that the invasion was a war because you cant change that fact. You get to play president on this one. What do you do if lets say China invades Taiwan and you are the president of the U.S. What do you do other than declare war on the invaders? (p.s. no turning the tables again and making referrences to the current Iraq)

Well, at the time I was young, and had no formed opinions on anything of this matter.

But now, looking at both sides of the issue, yes I do not like the fact that we shoved our asses in there.

My reason?

First off, Iraq was simply there to take back what was being stolen from them. Kuwait was STEALING oil that was on Iraqi ground through a process of diaganol drilling.By setting up oil pumps and drilling in a diaganol manner right near the border, Kuwait was taking Iraq's most valuable assett.

Now say you had a money tree growing in your yard, and your neighbor was reaching over the fence, and swiping money from YOUR moneytree, you'd be inclined to fight back and take what was rightfully yours.

SkierX that was the UN's responsibility. The UN should have stepped up and told Kuwait to knock it off. Again, another failed job by the UN. Saddam did not go in there because of that though. He wanted Kuwait. His main purpose was to occupy and govern the lands.

Graves, the fact that you're a Bush supporter really makes it easy to believe that you pin everything on Saddam trying to conquer the middle east. There is a reason why the US was so quick to jump in and help Kuwait. Not to protect them from Iraq. It was to keep Kuwait's oil-rich territories from being controlled by a leader who was not in bed with America on things.

The US is in a lot of foriegn affairs that they DEFINATLY should not be. Not necesarrily Iraq, but there are many others.
