I sometimes forget how dangerous this sport is

Swiss hockey player gets slammed, just learned earlier that he's gonna be paralysed from the waist down

Maybe if hockey players could use some judgement and realize that hitting someone like that is a bad choice.

I mean it was a bad idea to stop like that and a worse idea to hit someone that distance from the boards. I mean every sport has accidents but lets get real, full contact sliding around ice with blades on your feet is gonna lead to injuries.

Yeah not even gonna watch the video..I had a buddy that broke his neck a few years ago getting boarded, he couldnt go anything for months could barely move. Thankfully he made a complete recovery

Puts into perspective Kaleta's hit/suspension..it's a very real possibility that someone could die in the NHL with how big and fast players are becoming

That was fucking brutal. I used to play hockey and I liked it a lot but stuff like this makes me glad I don't run that risk anymore. not that skiing is a whole lot safer.

get them into your muscle memory somewhere that you wont get paralyzed (pool, trampoline, foampit, airbag especially) then once you get on snow it shouldn't be a problem if you're confident with it

Disgusting hit. But you can't be going into the boards like that at high speed with a guy right on your ass. Preventable by both players. Not saying the guy who hit him isn't at fault though

This is true. Shit happens but it doesn't mean it could of been avoided. I feel like he could of slowed down and made it into a board play or something.



And to everyone saying this kind of stuff happens in the NHL every other night, You couldn't be more wrong. These kind of hits (big injury hits that is) rarely happen. It has to be a freak thing for it to occur. Kind of like a skate laceration or something.

Yeah but there's a dirty hit most nights. All the commentators ever talk about now is head shots and dirty hits. I want finess and goals, not dirty hits.

Case in point: This is from two weeks of NHL play. Some of them are legal, but plenty of them are downright dangerous and are not needed in the league.

I used to play hockey, and one year there was a hit just like that, the kid had to be carried out on a stretcher, luckily he didn't get injured too bad, but he had to wear a neck brace for a couple of weeks. Board shots like that absolutely suck.

kinda looks like he went cut off the guy and take him out/slow down the pace, if thats right then him getting hit isn't really shocking, but its still super unfortunate that happened to him.

i played hockey for 10 years and getting hit from behind is the scariest thing ever. you go pretty much head first into the boards like this guy did here. luckily i was fine and wasnt playing nearly as hard as this guy but thats what happens in hockey
