Need new lens for my T2i

I need a new lens and I have no idea what to get! I have a 50mm 1.8 and a kit lens. Looking for a lens on the cheaper side!

Check out the Tamron 17-50, everyone else will say the same thing on here. Its pretty nice for low light because it has that 2.8 aperture. You can normally find them pretty cheap on ebay, I got mine for like $300 NEW.

(Next time you make a thread you think has been asked before, instead of making a new one search around for one on the other pages in this thread. Or you can search for one on google by typing Newschoolers.com: then what you want to search NS for.)

besides the lower aperature, isnt it pretty similar to the kit lens (18-55)?

OP do some google searching of comparing the 18-55 and the 17-50. Much easier than asking on here. But basically its much sharper, has the lower aperture, better build quality and is just overall a better lens. But I'm not sure if you really need it. How is the kit lens/50mm prime limiting you? Go out and shoot with them and figure out what you need that they don't have. Maybe you want a wide angle/fisheye or a macro, or a telephoto or something else. Maybe you just want to upgrade the kit lens.
You have to give more information that 'i need a new lens'.

Seems like maybe you could use a good zoom lens, maybe think about getting the 55-250mm

Canon 70-200 f/4L can be bought used for $450. Great lens. Tamron 11-16 f/2.8 is a superb wide angle lens for crop cameras.

I'd just keep the kit lens for now and get a 70-200 f/4. You have the middle focal range covered with the 50mm, and the 18-55 is pretty sharp on the wide end.

Maybe you can specify what you are looking for? Which of your current lenses do you use the most? Why? And what is the motivation to buy a new one? What functionality are you missing right now?
