So I have cancer...

Found out about a month ago that i have stage 3 hodgkin lymphoma, now am stuck at home in nh for the semester (was in utah where they are getting dumped on this year) while I get treatment.

So far I have had only one treatment, but will have them every 2 weeks until July. Pretty bored living at home and wondering if anyone here has had cancer or something that has kept them shut in for a while. Any idea on how to prevent boredom? I have started to cook a lot and thinking about learning a language.

I can't go outside too much or ski and have to avoid crowds because I pretty much no longer have an immune system and therefore can get sick really easy. If I get sick they can't give me chemo until I get better which delays treatment.

any serious ideas that don't involve smoking/drinking would be greatly appreciated

try learning some computer programming, there are a lot of languages and its pretty complex and fun. should keep you occupied for a long time

Damn dude, I feel really sorry for you, I had a relative and close friend who had it, it really stinks. I'm sorry ):

Suggestion: learn some computer skills like photo editing/website design or build rails or boxes or anything that interests you if that's your forté.

You could also just play video games.

if you're bored, torrent some old video games and go to town on em. old gta, tony hawk games, halo 1, are some of my favourites.

One of my buddies had lymphoma too. At least its one of the least deadly forms of cancer out there...

I would learn an instrument personally. Think of all the biddies you could slay if you told them you learned to play the bagpipes while undergoing cancer treatment. *Hnnnnnnk* *panties drop*

hope everything goes well.

i would probably learn 3D modeling/animation (blender is a great freeware program in this area), learning a pogramming language or maybe even start to play an instrument for fun. i am not very musical, but i decided to pick up a guitar last year and its fun to learn some easy rock riffs. i am pretty bad, but idc.

Learn a new program. Buy or torrent photoshop/illustrator/indesign or learn to write code. Its something you can do while inside that will give you cool skills that will be relevant and possibly help get you a job once you beat this. Plus its fun to be able to learn and use a program or make a website. Keep your chin up.

in my opinion learning chords and making your own progressions is a lot more fun than riffing. plus it's easier to learn songs that are just chord progressions

build a pair of skis. if you learn how to do it well you could sell them and make tons of money. you could read The game of thrones books or watch them on tv.

Just make sure that you find something to do because this is a really good time to devote yourself to something thats not skiing and if you waste it you may regret it

vibes man, cooking is fun, useful and chicks dig it. try and get the basics sorted and good timing. read loads of books, much more productive than watching series. try doing as much exercise as doctors allow, get yourself some dumbbells to keep your strength up so its not such a big transition to start skiing and sports again. best of luck

Vibes dude. My mom us going through breast cancer for the 2ns time in 1 year so i have a 2nd hand experience with what its like. Props for keeping your head up and staying positive.

Id recommend learning guitar. Its hella fun and such an amazing emotional letout and gateway for me. Nothing else ive found can do what playing the guitar in my room for an hour can do.

I know it sounds girly, but if you like to cook, start to bake. It's fun and most people enjoy eating baked goods. Or making noodles or bread. Kneading the dough takes out anger and sadness. I read it somewhere hahaha
Or like somebody else said, start reading. There are endless amounts of great books.
Learning a new language is also pretty great, but it could get aggravating quickly.

I love these books. I've read every one. I definitely would recommend them. Super easy to read. I would also recommend learning guitar or another instrument that you're interested in, and, like others have mentioned, cooking is always fun. Good luck with your treatment!

same thing here man, head injury kind of put a stop on everything. no running going to the gym taking classes or drinking my advice to you is to get out of the house at least once every other day or you'll go insane. just go out side and walk it dose wonders.

If you don't have one get an xbox, and netflix. Play some games with friends. That at least keeps you up on the social interaction without having to actually go in crowds. And netflix is always good to waste some time.

Buy the rights to EA ski and finish what they started. Become a legend, a hero.
