i know alot of people like to use glidecam, but does anyone else know of any other good ones? i also know everyone says "you get what you pay for" but 300 bucks is also alot of money. especially cause i'm saving up for a tokina 11-16mm. fairly new to filming with a DSLR, but used a camcorder alot before this. any help is appreciated.
Honestly you do get what you pay for. Just get a glidcam, don't waste your money on a flycam. I have a HD 2000 Glidecam and I most definitely love it. I have a 60D with a Tamron 17-50.
There are quite a few DIY fig rigs, shoulder rigs and stuff on you tube if you really wanted to save cash. If not save up for glidecam, especially if you are going to be filming skiing.
im dead seroius when i say this but i use my tripod folded up and use it like a dslr rig by holding it out, its very stable becuase its a nice tripod only cost me like 140 dollars but it works perfect i swear becuase its heavy enough and gives a nice equal balance
I have a flycam and its decent. The lack of fine tuning controls is a real pan in the ass and its clean that the quality isnt as good. I'd just go with a DIY or get a used 2000 pro or something on ebay (or just a new hd2000/1000 depending on the weight of your rig)
sorry for the double post, basically what its down to is the camtrol prime or flycam cause i'm short on cash. which is better? thanks to all for the help thus far
i'd just keep saving, be patient, and get a HD 2000. the new ones are super easy to balance and so worth it. I just got mine a month ago. The restart saving for the tokina. thats what im currently doing.
yeah i know this, i just want whatever is gonna be best for the amount of money. since i can get a camtrol for around the same price as flycam, i suppose you think flycam is the better option. i wish a glidecam was reasonable but i just can't swing that kind of money right now.
Can you not just shoot handheld, or use your tripod as a stabilizar while your saving up for a glidecam? Or do you really need to get a stablizer right now for some reason? With a flycam you're probly going to end up wanting to upgrade to a better one (ie glidecam). But if you don't know you'll really want to invest all the money in the glidecam i guess the flycam or another cheaper one would be okay. Look on ebay/craigs list to see if you can get any good deals. Otherwise just save up.
yeah i suppose ill just wait and save up, after all you guys know what you're doing which is why i made this thread in the first place. made a wtb thread on here, my search through ebay and craigs list begins.
good call homie, although it will suck for now it will be worth it in the end. U could get a handle that comes out to the left or right side of your camera for cheap. Therefore you would be holding your camera with your left and right hand and when you lock your elbows it does a decent job of being stable. also the more your knees are bent the more bumps the take up. im sure u knew that. heres a link to what im talking about
This. I have. Flycam and I want to upgrade really bad. Just get a used 2000 off eBay. The extra money is the difference between being happy and going crazy trying to balance close to perfect
Not only that but mine has a little broken off metal part in the inside of the pole that rattles aroudn whenever i move it. Its really not built very well at all, plus the balancing is a pain.
the pro and xr are essentially the same thing but the xr has a newer paint job and costs more. The Hd2000 is super easy to balance because it has fine adjustment knobs. I have a wieldy research it, it's sooo sick!
