he river is the anchor on which the story is based. Throughout the lives of the characters in the story, the river was there. It illustrated male bonding, recklessness, fun, and every other aspect of their lives. Just as it ran through the land, it ran through their lives until the end.

from yahoo answers, there is a movie made with brad pitt. watched it in school... wasnt terrible

A river runs through it was a semi autobiographical story about two brothers in Montana. The film was developed from a series of 3 books. Its a very good and inspiring movie, actually one of my favorites.
