GOOD NEWS HAS NO SPOT ON THE NEWS IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE PUT ON THE NEWS DUHHHH.


But seriously it might not be put on the news because although thee attacks were thwarted by some brave quick thinking people, it is kind of scary that there have been multiple attempts to do this since the aurora shooting. Thank god for netflix.

it doesnt fit their agenda for more gun laws/control... thats the plain and simple answer for it.

me. i say fuck yea, go off duty cop. this is what society needs, responsible people, with responsible firearm usage.

now i'm leaving to go shoot some guns with my family. let the shit storm begin.

because it was still a cop who prevented it.

If it had been the 20 year old kid or the 70 year old woman, it would be news and gun advocates would be going nuts.


But a cop (even off duty) with a gun is not even in the same category as a random citizen.

The headline may as well be "police officer does job correctly, wasn't wearing uniform though"

Exactly what I was thinking.

The government wouldn't let this get too much attention because then people will start to see the reality. That guns save lives. It drives me nuts to think that some gov. officials want to ban guns. What do they think it will do. Prevent criminals from getting them? All it would do is put everyday citizens at risk.

What I mean is that the person who ended this is a cop. A cop has 2 vital pieces of equipment...a radio and a gun. And they know how to use both very well.


So once again, a POLICE officer with a gun is not the same as a random citizen with a gun. Police officers undergo psych evaluations, background checks, proficiency training, and all sorts of other tests to be able to handle that weapon.

We are not talking about someone who went in, waited 3 days for a background check, then had a gun.

I really do. Do you think the reporters really care about people? If they did they would shove cameras in the face of people after being involved in horrific shit. Wait outside their houses for days hoping to get an exclusive interview.

Or you're involved in something shitty like you get raped, the first thing you def want is your name and picture on every news station all night.


Yeah I'm sure the news networks really care more about people than getting big rating.

I know people say these murderers do it for attention but i have a hard time wrapping my head around that. Maybe its because im not a psycho and cant understand why anyone would want to be remembered for being a piece of shit.

and fujarome. I get what the point your making but i dont think thats it. Its not a sexy story because nobody died. They old guy who shot the robbers at the internet cafe got a little publicity. Just a quick blurb. The media wasnt all over that. You mention gun advocates and their reaction. Thats not who is important here. The media is the group i am talking about

fair to say, and I definitely agree with you, however that's not the point I was making. The biggest difference is that cops have training shooting under stressful conditions, which is something civilians can't really get.


and yes, those cops in NYC did shoot innocent people by accident. But comparing that situation to this one is like me saying that all gun owners will eventually shoot a crowd of innocent people. It's an absolute minority, and we both know that.

no, it is in the same category. because the off duty cop still has to have a conceal and carry permit. so it is still putting a positive image/reinforcement to less gun laws.

i will agree with you to an extent. but at the same time, any one that does have a conceal and carry permit is someone who is knowledgeable, hunts, goes target shooting, etc.

I have yet to meet anyone that has a conceal and carry and is not knowledgeable and able to use a gun correctly and in a responsible fashion.

this WOMAN was a savior, the world has drove the people who are not stable enough to an extent where firing weapons will solve the problem? I think we need to get down to the main cause of this. you can have all the knowledge and preparation imaginable, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to react when someone is shooting back.

once again, this cop had almost definitely experienced simulations of being in similar situations, and therefore it was closer to second nature. you don't get that by knowing about guns and having permits

that is true. but again, every single person i know that has a carry permit is an avid hunter, range shooter, etc. and i really do think that any of the people i know that carries, in that situation would be in the right state of mind to make the right decision.

you guys act like every other person is going out and carrying a firearm now. and thats not the case. majority of people do not carry, majority of people have not fired a gun, and i believe the majority of people's negative opinions of firearms would change drastically if they took a class and spent a day shooting. the bottom line is, that the people that are going out and getting their conceal and carry permits are knowledgeable, they are sane, they are responsible, they are law abiding citizens, and they are smart enough to deal with a crisis situation.

if anything, as soon as a mass shooter sees someone with the gun, there are two things that happens. 1. he turns the gun on himself and commits suicide. or 2. it draws the complete attention to the citizen with the carry permit who drew his firearm in defense. which enables other people to get out unscathed, the shooters attention distracted, and lastly, the chance that the legal citizen could end the catastrophy before it starts, or someone is killed or more than 1 or 3 are killed.

shooting a deer is not comparable to being shot at by another person who intends to kill you. it doesn't matter how much you hunt or how long you've done it. it simply is not the same.

just because you think you know what you'd do does not mean that you'd actually react that way.

well. i dont think you give people enough credit. you guys automatically think the worst will happen with a conceal and carry...well, someone attempting a mass shooting is about as bad as it can get. you might as well have someone else there with a firearm.

because like i said before, the fact of the matter is, in a situation of a mass shooting attempt, if someone else pulls out a firearm, it will inevitably distract the shooter, or cause him to turn the gun on himself. and to me, that is definitely worth it.

you also give so much credit to "him being a cop." when you dont know if that cop had ever shot at someone before, drawn his weapon at someone before, or actually shot someone before. so as far as we know, he could have had just the amount of training any other person could get.. back ground checks, classes, shooting ranges, etc etc.

true, maybe I'm not. but generally it's better to assume the worst in such situations.

but you're only seeing it in a positive way. suppose someone does pull out a gun but is clueless. now he's firing, there's two gun men, people are caught in crossfire, add the police arrive and see two gunmen. now what happens

i definitely see where you're coming from, but the part of the scenario i dont agree with is the "clueless" part. because anyone that has a conceal and carry has taken classes, he has had target practice, etc. so to say he is clueless, is a definite over statement. and to be realistic, the legal carrying person may not even have to fire a shot, he could realistically just draw the attention of the shooter away..

and to be real, do you see a shootout like this lasting long enough till police arrive? what happens at every shooting? the shooter shoots until police arrive, then kills himself. so. either the shooter sees someone else, pops a few shots, then kills himself. or the shooter gets lucky and kills the citizen with a firearm then continues on. or the legal carrying citizen wounds the shooter, or the shooter is killed.

a mass shooter goes into these things knowing he is going to die. theres no doubt about that. so there is really no downfall. because the shooter is out to kill as many people as possible.

unless it's the least competent department in the world, the cop had learned how to deal with an active shooter. it's part of the training.

and becoming a cop requires much more than getting the permits.


we clearly aren't going to come to full agreement. but having shot at targets and in more random scenarios (similar to chill clearing a room) i can assure you they are by no means similar
