Look at the end of the rail. Don't go at too much of an angle off the jump and get on for a few feet and fall off. Get on sort of right next to the rail and barely turn onto it

pop with your skis parallel to the rail. don't carve or come on at an angle. hop 90 degrees look at the end of the rail.

Like whenever i attempt to do like a 90 on...i just totally eat shit. i want to be able to do a 90 on 90 off! its frustrating

Havin probs too. I pop 90 and lean forward but when i do i split my skis and slip off the rail. And when i dont lean forward i slip out and slam my ass I dont think its an equipment problem, but for reference i have volkl alleys w/ pretty sharp edges (no sidewall). Also, theyre mounted about -6cm b/c theyre season rentals and my shop wouldnt center them

i have the same problem except i can get on i just cant ride the rail the whole way. and also if theres a big gap to the rail i cant get onto it? tips aswell?

First off do you have a center mount. If you dont it can be tough to spin. If you are having trouble getting on the rail then just put it between your legs (by that I mean 1 ski on each side). Keep your legs shoulderwidth apart and tilt your front ski up a little bit. The sharper the edge the more important this is. Bottom line your just gonna fall a few times before you get the balance and stuff right.

From the side, but when you pop don't pop with your skis tilted toward the rail, pop with your skis parallel to the rail and 90 on. I think that what he's trying to say?

What is your height and weight. They may seem longer if it is your first centermount ski, more tail.

Which type of rail is the best to try as a transition from boxes? Ive been trying a grounded smooth tube because it was less threatening, but my mountain has a footwide granite, some flatbars, barrels, etc.

I'd go for the flatbar. You might be tensing up as you hit it, make sure you don't do this. Keep your shoulders relaxed and focus on the end of the rail. Pop 90 degrees (obviously) and don't forget the afterbang. It's really that simple.

i wouldnt necessarily go with the flat bar, its easier to edge in on

the first rail i hit was a pipe like 6 inches in diameter, really hard to catch your front edge and a good way to build up confidence for hitting different rails

make sure your skis are flat with the rail while sliding, unlike stopping on snow.

Thanks guys, i'll probably try the flatbar because it's in the hike park, the only slim tube is a single barrel handrail that's on a down slope. Regardless, (hopefully) i'll have my first and second rails. That smooth tube has been haunting my dreams.

Other questions: where should my hands be? how much should i bend my knees? should i pop off the end or just ride it off? when i afterbang, how much should my head weigh?

all help much appreciated

I find cylindrical rails much more difficult to hit than anything square/rectangular shaped. I feel good on most flat or down rails but anything with crazy kinks and changes in direction still scares me a little bit.

By the way, if I want to hit a rail switch, is it better to ride switch the whole way in or right in regular, spin to switch right before the lip so that you can get your line and speed properly and then pop off that way?

I only tried one switch hit yesterday and I rode in switch the hole way and ate shit pretty good.
