well its physically like a 17.5 - 237 lens on the gh2, but jamie was telling me it needs to be used with the crop mode so yeah i think it would be a 70-900 in that mode haha

meh, you would have to use ETC mode for it not to vignette horribly.

I'd worry about how sharp it is, and CA. does anyone know where I can find test shots? I couldn't find them anywhere online.

theses are fairly popular over at dvxuser, i've seen some that go even wider/faster, and some that even have a built in doubler so you don't need to use crop mode. from the few tests I've seen, most of them look fairly sharp, and they are parfocal, so they are always a hit with the run n gun documentary style crowds

I see Angenieux zooms go for $400-$500 fairly often. I miss parfocal so so much.

A long parafocal is definitely something I see myself investing in somewhat soon. Need to put some money away.

Fuji parfocal lenses are essentially the reason why I'd much rather have a 2/3" 3CCD p2 broadcast camera over a RED Epic any day. I have yet to see RED footage match the image quality of those cameras (Planet Earth), and it's largely due to the broadcast lens system.

Could someone explain to me what a parafocal lens means? And how they can possibly get a constant f1.9 aperture for such a long zoom lens?

You can zoom in and out, and your focal plane doesn't change.
It's all done with magic.

I dont quite understand. So your saying the lens will be in focas at any focal length (if focused prior).

Yep, whatever you focused the lens on will stay in focus as you zoom in or out.

Also, I keep adding an extra 'a'. It's PARFOCAL

It's nice because you can simply zoom in on an object to focus in, then zoom out. Plus you have the ability to zoom while shooting like Planet Earth/Stanley Kubrick/Kris Ostness.

Right, thats the main reason i would buy it. Obviously, i wouldnt be able to get smooth zooms like a paddle zoom, but i would still like the ability to zoom in/out mid shot. I always thought that effect looks awesome.

Wow, I've always wondered why lenses couldn't do that (in my mind it seems simple, you just zoom in the lens and have a little motor adjust the focus wheel a little bit lol) but yeah. Damn if only I had a gh2

It's due to the lens having a rear glass element. There are purely mechanical parfocal lenses. The motor on this particular lens is for servo zoom.

Oh, that makes sense. The servo zoom is like motor controlled zooming? instead of manual?

It doesnt include the camera! WTF!
Anyways, this does look dope, especially with the included adaptor. I am missing servo zoom for sure.
