Ski sliding

I suck at skiing. I can only 50 -50 boxes and im trying to ski slide. Every time i try my skis slip out from under me. Any tips?

Make sure you're coming on facing the rail directly.

dont lean back. that was my problem. although it seems like you should, dont do it.

just come at the rail, pop evenly, turn 90 degrees and land perfectly balanced on both skis, you dont need more pressure on one or the other.

this sounds like your problem, hope it helps

athletic stance for balance. widen your feet and overcompensate leaning forward if you have to (so you dont slip out on your first few tries)

look at the end of the rail/box focus on keeping weight on your font foot

yea pretty much whats been said, shoulder wide stance, maybe even a bit wider when your first learning. ideally you want about 50/50 pressure between your feet, but at first a lot of times although it may feel like you are balanced, you are still actually leaning back to much, so maybe exaggerate the forward lean a bit. Also make sure you get the full 90° on and you dont pop more than you need to. Going a bit faster is easier than going slow, although it may seem more intimidating at first. And once your on the rail look at the end. Do all that and you should be good.

shoulder width apart with your legs, look at the end of the rail, lock on rail right away, lean forward not backward

oh man, and this whole time I was thinking andy parry type ski slides. WHUPS

yeah I try not to think too much going up to the rail. I know that doesn't sound like much, but if you don't think about slipping out it probably won't happen. I had the WORST time with slipping out last season. This summer I had a setup that really really helped me.

go to home depot/menards/lowes or whatever, buy a 8 - inch wide pvc pipe (10 feet long, they usually are less than 30 dollars) and set one up in your yard this winter. Just try and try and try in a safe environment, and eventually you'll get it.

It is SO fun.

Just try to stay even, weight on front foot, don't think too much, and have speed. Come at the rail straight and confidently and then commit.

Also make sure you turn a full 90 degrees when you get on the box. a lot of people will start out thinking they can go a little at a time, and eventually learn to go completely sideways. its a hell of a lot easier to slide 90 degrees to the box than it is to slide at 45 degrees

i didn't see this, but line up your shoulders with the box/ rail. i had the exact same issue then i started doing this and went from 50/50 ing out of boxes to being able to 270 out /claim. boxes are generally easy to pick up on.

make sure you are leaning far enough forward, and don't try any features above your level, just keep it simple and work your way up, and have fun!!

Few basic tips, then go out to slide for hours...

-Speed is essential not to lose balance so when you hit a rail when beginner you always think you are coming too fast but you're not...
-Head in the direction of the rail + you looking at the end to the rail (not your feet)
-your upper body should be more or less parallel to your legs
-Be flex on your legs, don't be rigid on the rail, take a rather low stance


If you want I can upload pictures of me in a rail position but I guess watching video and pictures helps.

I helped a friend learn how to slide boxes the other day so here goes-
Make sure you turn all the way 90 on the box. This will look a lot better and help you keep your balance.
The slipping out comes from fear- you are naturally leaning on your back foot, and not turning your body fully. Make sure your body turns 90 along with your skis- and focus on leaning your weight on your front foot.

If you can, try to get a tube, and work on hitting that, that way you can see what your doing wrong, and get used to the feeling of sliding

99% of the time people try to learn by creeping up to the rail but really you have to haul bauls and commit

oh yeah, COMMIT LIKE YOU'VE NEVER COMMITTED BEFORE. GO UP TO THAT MOTHERFUCKING RAIL WITH THE INTENTION TO FUCK IT UP THE ASS THEN FIND IT'S MOTHER AND SHOW HER THE SWEET GOPRO VIDEO YOU TOOK OF YOU DOMINATING HER LITTLE SPAWN.
