Given how expensive college is, perhaps NS can come together to help current NS high schoolers have the opportunity to go to school for cheaper. I propose some kind of "unofficial" NSers scholarship. Personally, I would gladly contribute some extra money (nothing huge, maybe $20, but hey everything helps) to help a future college student. And if others joined in, I'm sure this could really take off! Let's get some ideas rolling. Here are some of mine:
-Current high schoolers could apply by some arbitrary deadline, say March 1st, and then a winner or winners will be selected by, say May 1st. Those who want to contribute would each paypal some high up authority on this site, who would then send all the money together to the winner (s). It could be upfront or upon completion of first semester. We'd have to sort this out.
-The recipient (s) would be a motivated high school student (obvious member of NS and skier) who wants to study something that will contribute to the ski industry. It could be anything from welding school to build park features, hotel management to one day run a resort, a science to fix climate change, the list goes on.
-With the above said, we could have one grand recipient or maybe three different categories with three recipients.
-Obviously an application with contact information, short response about how skiing has influenced your life and future plans, and an essay on what you plan to study at college. The recipient (s) must show dedication and motivation, and preferably someone who "tries" in high school (not saying he/she has to get perfect grades, but not entirely incompetent either).
So, NS, let me hear your thoughts!
