Need help picking first skis

I have decided to change from snowboarding to skiing because im not the greatest at snowboarding and i need some help picking my first ski.

-5'7", 130 lbs

-beginner        

-will mostly be doing park and fresstyle

I'd say get the K2 Sight. It's an all mountain park ski that is more geared toward all mountain, but still rips in the park. Pretty cheap too.

I can tell you right now to ignore that first ski related response. way too tall for you. I can also tell you you'll look like a gaper if you start in the park right away, so don't do it. Go with something cheap that you can beat on roughly 170 - 177. I can recommend the armada El Rey. Good for a first time skier. I've always supported armada and will continue to do so until they disappoint me. It's a stiffer ski leaning more towards all mountain skiing. It's has a strong edge and it is very light.

Please take a season or two to just learn how to ski. My mountain is plagued by kids that went strait to the park. They can't ski the mountain worth shit but they think they're really good, it pisses me off.

Don't go too long man, go for around the 155-165 area. Especially if you're just starting.

Why do people say this? Its so stupid, who cares if someone wants to get right into park skiing before learning to ski first? This is freeskiing, not some racing training camp, do what you want on the hill.

First off, skis-

OP, tell us a bit about your skiing ability. I'm guessing you will be a beginner in the park, and will most likely not want to be limited to one aspect of skiing since you haven't really tried out the sport yet, so I would say look at basicelly any companies mid-level/entry park ski. You are pretty light and just starting out, so you most likely won't be beating up your gear too bad, and lots of those skis will ride out of the park just fine too.
Examples:

Line Mastermind
K2 Press or Sight
Armada El Rey
etc, etc, pretty much every company out there makes a ski that would fit your needs. You are just starting, so don't worry too much about the little specifics about your ski choice, that matters more when you are an advanced skier and know exactly what you want/are very hard on your gear.

Boots-

One thing you should know about freeskiing, is that unlike snowboarding, boots can be a real pain in the neck. Shin bang, foot cramps, etc. are really easy problems to develop, especially before you learn good skiing technique, and thats why its very important to put both the money and the time into getting fitted with a proper boot. You don't need a freeskiing specific boot, just having a boot that fits you is what is important, even if its off the used rack. *HAVING A PROPER FITTING BOOT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR SETUP*

Bindings-

Again, seeing as you are light and just starting out, you won't need anything too crazy for bindings. Ideally, you want a binding where your DIN will be in the middle of the bindings DIN range. So for you, a 12 din binding will most likely suit your needs.

I have to agree on the learn the basics firsts then go to the park. I've been skiing 13 years and just started skiing park two seasons ago and I even looked like a noob. Start with a used ski from craigslist to get the basics down. K2 public enemies are usually pretty easy to find and are really cheap used. get something around 165-171. Then once you get the hang of it Demo a few different skis and see what you like/dont like in a ski before you decide to drop a bunch of money on a new pair. Have fun and good luck. I am also a big supporter of doing a few lessons first, that will help you learn a lot faster and get your confidence up and keep you from developing bad habits because you don't know the right way to ski.

go get some all-mountains and learn how to ski first. Dont get anything too sticky and dont get a pow ski either. Just get an all around good ski. SIR FRANCIS BACONS are an all mtn. that are great for everything and will be a great ski to progress on imo.
