I'm afraid of chairlifts.

I'm just coming out and saying it. I am absolutely, completely, uncontrollably terrified of fucking chairlifts.

Worst part about it is that the BEST skiing is always accessed by the worst chairlifts.

I just suck it up and do it, but I've been known to be so scared I literally cried.

WTF is my brain doing to me? Anyone else out there?

I hate the peak 2 peak gondola at whistler simply because if it were to fall there would be zero chance of survival. I was on it on a windy day and was stuck on it for an hour, was not a happy camper.

The one chair i was legitimately freaked out on was some double chair at Abasin.

Also getting blown into a lift tower at Red Lodge on a old old double had me nearly shitting my pants. I take it back this freaked me out way more than Abasin. haha

when i'm going up with my friends and they don't but the bar down, then it stops at the highest fucking point, and rolls back like 4 feet. that's when i shit myself

I remember my first chair lift ride, it was long before I ever skiied. I was tubing, and this was my first experience being on the hill and seeing a chairlift in person. Got on with some kid, bar down, okay, everything is fine....

Then we get up high and I am just terrified, I'm just clutching the bar in fear, and thats when I realized I had no idea how we get off. So I asked my chairlift buddy, and he said "we jump," and I was like "WHAT how do we jump from this high," and then he explained how it gets lower and we just run off. It took him a while to convince me to let him lift up the bar so we could get off.

That was my first chairlift ride, now I rarely put down the bar, pretty much only when someone tells me to or if I think should follow the rules.

DUDE - this is what goes through my head every single fucking ride. Like "OK... who the fuck built this thing? Who is maintaining it? Are they doing a good job? How can this odd cable-supported chair thingy REALLY survive in the mountains? Chairs actually do fall sometimes..."

Then my shit just ends and I freak out.

Peak chair in whistler is exceptionally scary to me.

I couldn't ever tell you why, but the peak-to-peak doesn't scare me. Its super weird... same as being in an airplane. Its almost so high I don't process it as height.

I don't fucking know. I think my brain is trolling me.

the P2P is more a straight run, right? I'm with you, that's not that bad. It's when you're travelling up a very steep pitch that it gets sketchy.

Also gondola's are not as bad as an open chair.

I also find myself less scared of a cliff than a chairlift. So if I were standing on a 30' cliff, I would feel completely fine jumping off. 30' chairlift? Peeing pants.

Peak chair at whistler is the only lift ride i have taken and legitimately been so scared to death...i was clinging on for my life...didnt help that it was windy too

Yeah, some of Big Sky's lifts are janky as hell when it is not ideal conditions. I was riding Swifty a few years ago and the chair stopped for a few minutes ( at the highest point, mind you ) when suddenly we just plumeted about 15 feet. Everyone on the lift was screaming. I seriously thought I was either going to die, or at least break my legs. That might be one of the scariest moments of my life.

the knob chair at marmot basin is exactly like that so sketchy when its right in the middle and it stops and you start to sway hard. it doesnt help its a old ass 2 seater as well hahaha

I'm not too scared of the typical lift.

But when traveling at a height that would mean instant death if something happened, I would put the bar down, even if Tom Wallisch and Henrik were sitting next to me.

And I'm kind of afraid of getting stuck when it's super cold out and the chairlift won't work, that would get real shitty quickly.

Here's another weakness of mine.... if I was on the chair with people who were super cool, and they didn't put the bar down....

I wouldn't either.

Sometimes to survive my fear I pull my hat over my eyes under my goggles.

I have a solid internal wish to seem cool - its dumb... and fuck I'm even an adult... but what can I say?

yep. especially in the summer time seeing how steep the chairlift actually is freaks me out. Chairlifts have always freaked me out in the first place anyways

That isn't, but no word of a lie that happened to me once doing a trust fall.

I trusted my team so much, and the stupid tiny chicks catching my upper body dropped me. The strong dudes at the bottom tried to catch me, but all they caught was my pants.

Cock and balls flying around everywhere as my team tried to gracefully let my half-naked body down into the sand...

I got stuck on a chairlift once. We were doing some training and a foot rest was down on one of the chairs so we got stopped in the middle. We were the only people at the resort at the time so nobody could restart the lift. Luckily for us we wernt to high and somebody jumped off and started it back up. Also, if we were higher we would have been fine because we had climbing stuff with us.
