Make My Meal

Alright here's the situation:

I have a selection of food in the fridge and I'm the only person here today, and I want to make something new. Recipe websites can work sometimes but they usually don't give good results.

Here is a list of things which I have, and you should suggest a meal using any or all of the ingredients. You may use only 3 ingredients, or you may use every single one, whatever you like. I will choose the best recipe and post a photo of it once I've cooked it! Main meal or desert, as you wish.

fresh ingredients:

- chicken (cooked)
- broccoli
- aubergine / eggplant
- courgettes
- carrots
- onions
- garlic
- cabbage
- potatoes
- tomatoes
- red / yellow peppers
- bread

- milk
- butter
- eggs
- ginger

- lemons
- bananas
- oranges
- pears
- apples
- kiwi fruit

- parsley
- basil
- chives
- thyme

canned:

- sweetcorn
- red kidney beans
- pineapple

other:

- pasta
- rice
- couscous
- tapioca

- flour
- baking powder
- yeast

- dried raisins
- dried sultanas
- dried cranberries

- red wine
- white wine
- red wine vinegar
- soya sauce
- worcester sauce
- ketchup
- mayonnaise

basics:

- salt
- pepper
- sugar
- various cooking oils

- coriander (not fresh)
- cumin
- turmeric
- cayenne pepper
- chili powder
- various other herbs and spices

The ingredients ARE limited, although I have enough supply of most which are listed to make a meal out of. I may have missed out some ingredients, so if you want to suggest something with a few other ingredients, go ahead, I might have them.

Make a lasagne-style layered baked pasta with:

White sauce(start with a roux, and add milk, garlic, salt and pepper)
Diced cooked chicken
Cooked pasta
Thinly sliced roasted vegetables(toss eggplant, peppers, broccoli, carrots in olive oil and a touch of thyme, season lightly with S&P)
Red sauce(simmer tomatoes, garlic, diced onions, basil)


Layer cooked pasta with white sauce and diced chicken, add another layer of noodles, top with red sauce, roasted veggies, and spread the remainder of the sauces on top.  Bake at 350 for 60min covered, uncover to brown the top.

It would be better if you had some cheese, but it will work.

Bake a pie for desert.

Crust:
Grate 2/3cup frozen unsalted butter
1 1/2cup flour
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tbsp lemon juice

Combine dry ingredients with frozen grated butter.  Knead until mixture begins to stick together.
Whisk lemon juice and egg.  Combine wet and dry and mix comes together.  Roll out 2 discs of dough 1/4- 1/8" thick.  Set aside to chill.

Filling:
Diced apple
Diced pear
1tbsp flour
1tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins

Combine apple and pear in a bowl.  Mix flour, sugar, and cinnamon, and toss with fruit.

Form dough into pie shell.  Add the fruit to the pie shell, and top with raisins.  Place the second disc on top and crimp the edges together using your thumbs or a fork.  Pierce the top of the shell to let steam escape.

Bake for 35 minutes at 375, or until the crust has browned nicely.

would make a serious suggestion if i could actually cook.
but stir frys are usually good, just take whatever you feel like eating, throw it in a pan with soya sauce, put it over rice.

hmmm... i say cook the canned pineapple in a small pot with some chili powder and cayenne. maybe add just a little sugar. pour it over the chicken as a sauce. i'll try to come up with something better. just give me a few minutes.

I realize avocados aren't on the list, but this is the best meal ever that includes chicken..


Bake a piece of chicken.
Chop up an avocado.
Add chives in with the chopped avocado and a little bit of lime.

When you put the piece of chicken on your plate, put the avocado with chives on top of the chicken.
Squeeze lime juice on top of the chicken.

Make couscous for the side, and then squeeze a little lime juice on top of that also.

Then steam broccoli for the vegetable side.

peaches and avocado go together so well. do pretty much the same thing you described, but grill some peaches and throw it in with the avocado/lime. tons of cilantro in there to.

Mmh grilled peaches with chicken and avocado, amazing. Guess I will put that on the list too then! And yeah, avocados weren't on the list cause I really didn't have any :(

Its a pie vent (unofficial name). Instead of poking a ton of holes in the crust for gases to escape from boiling water in filling ingridients, use one of these.

You need to add bacon to your basics list. Bacon is always necessary in any serious kitchen!

But that cassarole lasagna thing looked really good! /props

Lol, you are correct, of course, but it would have to be in my fresh ingredients section because it doesn't last all that long. I had some bacon too but forgot to list it!

Suggest me a bacon recipe :D

I personally just love bacon on its own! Its such an amazing food plain! BUT, sometimes i'll throw a 1/2 cup of brown sugar in the pan while i'm cooking it slowly and it caramelizes and makes for an even more unhealthy and sugary salty treat! Definitely not good for you but who cares, its bacon!

Also chocolate covered bacon is the shit!

Yeah I love bacon, but I have definitely never tried it with caramelised sugar or with chocolate. Oh and who cares if it's unhealthy - we are skiers so that doesn't matter! lol

You could boil some water, pour that over 1 tbsp instant coffee, drink it.

About the cheetos, I would suggest you eat them. And the spaghetti.

Anyone got better ideas?

make spaghetti bolognese, and use the cheetos as either meatballs, or you can crush them up to use them as mince.
